Madikeri: Frustrated by lover's rejection, man kills nurse

Madikeri, Dec 23: In an incident which occurred on Monday December 22 at Beloorbane in Somwarpet taluk, a man whose advances were spurned by his lover, hacked her to death in broad daylight. The accused reportedly stopped Ramya, who was accompanied by a relative, abused her, and then hit her several times with a sickle till she collapsed to the ground lifeless.

The accused has been identified as Mahesh (30), son of Babu from Kenchammanabane, while the victim is Ramya (24) from Napoklu Kolakeri in Madikeri taluk. She was working as nurse in a private hospital in Channapatna in Ramanagara district.

Ramya had availed leave, and had come to her elder sister's home in Kenchammanabane. On Monday morning, she was going to the government hospital in Somwarpet along with her sister's daughter, when Mahesh stopped her, scolded her for spurning his advances, and then attacked her with sickle, reports said. It is learnt that Nagaveni and Suneeta, who were with Ramya, were kept at bay by the accused,who waved the sickly menacingly.

Ramya used to visit Kenchammanabane occasionally, and Mahesh, a neighbour of Ramya's elder sister, felt that Ramya liked him, going by the fact that she spoke to him now and then. After he started pestering her, a police complaint was filed against him. Mother of Ramya said that Mahesh killed her daughter because of anger he had against Ramya on account of police complaint.

The Somwarpet police, who have registered a case, have begun search for the accused.
