Bengaluru: Govt has no intention of 'interfering' in Math affairs: Jayachandra

Bengaluru, Dec 24: The proposed amendments to the Karnataka Hindu Religious Institutions and Charitable Endowments (Amendment) Bill, 2014, will enable the government to intervene in to affairs of Hindu religious Maths "only in exceptional circumstances."

"It may be noted that the proposed amendments provide for government intervention in only exceptional circumstances. It is not the intention of the government to interfere in the autonomy or management of the Maths," Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister T B Jayachandra said here on Tuesday in a four-page note.

The Bill was tabled in the legislature "fearing the Supreme Court’s strong observations" against the State Government, he said.

The State Government has to place before the Apex Court the actions it had taken to regulate Maths. The Apex Court has given six-weekstime to the State Government to respond, the official note explained.

The minister made it clear that the State Government has to clearly state its position in respect of Maths before the Supreme Court. The case will come up for hearing on January 13, 2015.

''The case is at the stage of final arguments and the state government has to necessarily articulate its position regarding the inclusion of Maths. This was the immediate reason for introduction of the amendments," Jayachandra said.

Briefing reporters after the decisions taken at the State Cabinet meeting, the Minister said that he had explained in the Cabinet about the necessity of the Bill.

In fact, the Justice Rama Jois Committee, which was appointed by the previous BJP regime, had made suggestions that were more stringent than those have been proposed now, he said.

The minister pointed out that the previous BJP Government had chosen Justice Rama Jois to be its Rajya Sabha member and consequently it was not fair to blame the State Government for acting on the Justice Rama Jois panel’s recommendations, especially when the intention was not to ''interfere’’ needlessly into the affairs of the Maths.

In spite of criticism against mutts there contribution towards Primary and higher education is tremendous. If Bangalore is IT hub today, thanks to various mutts for their Engineering colleges. Only problem all good activities but mutts are not published but even smallest of small fault is blown up

I don't think Bangalore became IT hub because of Mutt's engineering colleges. Most of the Mutts started engineering colleges recently to make money.

When Veerappa Moily was the education minister, he started CET and free Govt seat for talented economically backward students.
And it is late PM Rajiv who is responsible for IT revolution in India.

With an eye over assets of various Matha, & with a futile attempt to pork in their nose in the internal affairs of the Matha's the Bill is said to be pressed, in a hurry bury without even discussing in the Assembly. But opposition was all alert in protesting, & eventually with protests from various Matha's now it is just a tough time in defending the earlier stand, & just in withdrawing the Bill with no other alternative left behind. Just to satisfy the mal-intention of some very minor section of people, the Bill is seemed to be presented without even calculating the consequences. With these developments, he has invited wrath from all sections of socitey. Now, its payback time.....indeed...

With every step it looks like our Niddheramaih is taking his party to dead end of the road...

why only matt-s? Lydia baaye has not asked for other religious institutions too to be included in this? she wants ALL to be included as national books!!

the mangalore DC sometime back gave a farmaan that.. " all temples should have CCTV by this date, all by themselves, their money"! why? ...why no priests in these temples are also given a salary? ..Madrasa maintenance guys, Maulvis are already drawing a salary of upto 3K! Why, this disparity... secularism ka real menanign kya hai?

why all educational institutions run by church are under govt control..atleast have a right to appoint a Principal to such colleges, who is also a "no father/non sister/no religious/from other reliogion" there!!...

Congress wants issues.. its stands in Ram sethu issue were evident! some one like Swamy will fight it our in court, neverthless! but nataraj temple issue, Lord Ananthpadmanabh issue has got congress to this level.. now they want more it loosk like!

temples and Mutts, have years of history.. no islamic invader., biritish/portugese/ oir raja maharajas /tipus ever tried to get them under control.. Yes, they tried to harm them, suppress them.. but no one had daring to take over them! congres ke bure din shuru ho chuke hain!

MATH LOBBY IS STRONGEST TOOL IN RUNNING GOVT BUSINESS IRRESPECTIVE OF ANY PARTY WHICH GOVERNS KARNATAKA.
SECOND STRONGEST LOBBY WILL BE LIQUOR BUSINESS

    THIRD PRIVATE EDUCATION LOBBY

    FOURTH ONE IS COMMUNITY/CASTE LOBBY.

It is pitiable that govt decided to poke nose to unwanted things which may backfire later which might forced govt on defensive mode?
