Udupi: Pejawar Swamiji accuses government of misleading people

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (SP)

Udupi, Dec 25: Sri Vishweshateertha Swamiji of Pejawar Math here has accused the state government of misleading the people on the issue of attempt to pass Karnataka Maths and Temples Acquisition Ammendment Act. He was addressing a press conference here on Wednesday December 24.

The Swamiji said that the Supreme Court, in its judgment delivered sometime back relating to the affairs of a particular Math, had only said that if felt necessary, the governments can ammend the law, to exercise control over Hindu religious institutions and Maths, stressing that this has never been made compulsory as being made out.

He admitted that there can be litigation or problems in some Maths or there might be allegations of corruption too. 'In such cases, the disciples or the management will sort out the issue. If the problem persists, the government can intervene and take action against individual entities. Taking over the Math administrations by the government is not a right step by passing an ammendment,' he felt.
