Karkala, Dec 26: An incident of traffic rule being blatantly flouted in the very presence of minister incharge of Udupi district has taken place at Kabettu Attur junction.
As the 30-year-old Kabettu bridge is in a bad state, the municipal administration under the direction from the district administration has put sign boards in the town limits. At Kabettu Attur junction and at Kabettu junction too, sign boards prohibiting the movements of heavy vehicles have been put. Though some private buses use this road, there is no official directive from district administration changing the bus route. People have been complaining about this for long.
On Thursday December 25, a programme of 'Guddali Puje' for the Kabettu Attur junction road was held for which minister Vinay Kumar Sorake had come. MLA Sunil Kumar, former MLA H Gopal Bhandary, town municipal president Rahmath Shaikh, tahsildar Raghavendra, town municipal officer Rayappa and Chandrashekar from PWD Udupi were present when the heavy vehicles were seen moving on the road, with absolutely no respect either for the sign board or fear of the officials at the spot.
When the media captured the pictures of the same, the public servants including the minister acted as if they did not care about the incident.
What will happen if any tragedy takes place because of this negligence? As usual, nobody would take the responsibility even if a life is lost.
