Puttur, Dec 28: In connection with the murder of a person named Neelayya Gowda at Kapikad Totla near Kaikara in Volamogru village in the taluk on the night of Thursday December 25, the Sampya police have taken into a custody a BJP leader on the evening of Saturday December 27, it is reliably learnt.

Neelayya Gowda

The body of Neelayya Gowda (43) from Kodiyadka near Sanyasigudde in Kedambady village had been found lying by in the bushes by the roadside at Kapikad Totla on Thursday night. The Sampya police had visited the spot and registered a case of murder. On Saturday evening they took into custody a person named Mohan Alva from Mundala in Kedambady village.

Mohan Alva happens to be the general secretary of BJP taluk Yuva Morcha unit. His car was intercepted near Sarepuni in Kedambady when he was travelling with his wife and children to attend the annual day programme of a private school in Kavu, it is said.

It is gathered that in the past, Mohan Alva had provided shelter to Neelayya Gowda near his house when the latter was going through a lean patch. Neelayya had come close to Alva in course of time, even working as a worker for Alva. However, for some reasons, the closeness between them waned of late, and animosity occupied its place. There was land dispute between them too, it is said.

Sources said Mohan Alva was taken into custody by the police based on cell phone calls made by Neelayya Gowda.
