Kundapur: Non-payment of Rs 3,500 - Student barred from writing exam

Kundapur, Dec 28: A poor student's future hangs in the balance after he was denied hall ticket for failure to pay outstanding college fee of Rs 3,500 due to financial problems.

Moodlakatte Institute of Technology here denied issuance of hall ticket to its student who was to appear for the semester examination. The college insisted on payment of Rs 3,500 due to it by the student before it could issue hall ticket to him.

Ajay D Naik from Kumta is the final year student of electronics and communications department of this college. He was to appear for an examination for clearing a pending subject pertaining to sixth semester on Saturday December 27. When Ajay came to the college to appear for the examination, he was denied the hall ticket. His repeated requests fell on deaf ears, as the head of the managing committee said he can collect the hall ticket only after clearing the amount due as above. He kept trying, but to no avail, and the examination came to an end soon without him.

The college management argues that Ajay had kept Rs 3,500 pending towards mess bill and other fees of the college. Ajay had,a few days back, handed over a letter requesting the principal to allow him to appear for the examination, citing financial problems and promising to clear the dues at the earliest. The principal had handed over this letter to the college unit handling examination matters.

Ajay was under the impression that he would be allowed to appear for the examination, but the shocking development at the college after he reached there disheartened him. The concerned bluntly told him that he cannot appear for the examination as he had arrears to be paid to the college. Many of his friends came to the rescue of Ajay at this trying moment.

The media persons, immediately after coming to know that a student was being barred from appearing for the examination, went to the college, where a large number of students from electronics and communications department met them at the gate and expressed their anger at the college management. All of them were angry at the fact that a student's future was being compromised for a small amount, although every student spends thousands of rupees for his engineering education. They wanted to know whether the college entertains the needs of only those who are rich and mighty.

'Although every student gets a mess bill of around Rs 2,000 each month, quality of food leaves much to be desired. Hostel facilities are poor and of sub-standard quality. Although several cell phones and laptops were stolen from the hostel premises, the management of the college has failed to take these incidents seriously and take preventive measures. Even in cases where the principal is agreeable to yield to the requests of students, office superintendent, Pradeep, is always out to snatch away facilities and comforts of students,' these students rued.

Both college superintendent and management stress that they were in order in denying hall ticket to Ajay. They say they had reminded the student repeatedly to clear his bill and that as per college rules, he was not allowed to appear for the examination, as he failed to clear his dues.

The students of electronics and communications department of the college however, are up in arms against the college management for what they term as injustice meted out to Ajay. They insist that the student's future should not have been jeopardized for the sake of such a small amount.

THERE IS NO LOGIC IN NON ISSUENCE OF HALL TICKET AND NON PAYMENT OF MESS BILL BECAUSE MANAGEMENT SHOULD HAVE COLLECTED MESS BILL IN ADVANCE AND IF NOT PAID COULD HAVE DENIED MESS FACILITY.
THERE ARE SO MANY PEOPLE WHO OFFER PAYMENT ON BEHALF OF STUDENT ALONG WITH INTEREST BUT CAN THE SCHOOL MANAGEMENT ARRANGE EXAMS FOR THE STUDENT WITHOUT FURTHER DELAY IS BIG QUESTION MARK ?
THIS SHOWS HOW THE SCHOOL MANANGEMENTS NOW A DAYS MONEY MINDED.
THEY BEG FOR DONATIONS AT THE BEHEST OF HELPING POOR BUT GRAB THE POOR TO THE POSSIBLE EXTENT.

totally wrong decision by the college management, The management could have allowed the student to write the examination and withheld the result until payment of dues.

once you have written the exam, you wont be able to get the dues! and he can very well go to court and get the results, out, those are withheld! and results is given by University, after corrections/valuations and not college level! he doesnt even need to go to college post he writes a exam....sir, have some logic!

It is sad that a student has been denied a hall ticket and deprived from appearing for an exam because he was not in a position to clear the hostel dues. Does this mean that a poor student has no chance or opportunity?. It is time the College authorities realize that a fair chance should be given to a poor student.

    What will the repercussions be?

In USA for serious studies, which costs a lots loan taking by the students is very common. They have to pay back once they begin to work. Some pay study loan till they reach their 40s and 50s. If Ajay didn't know how to procure Rs:3500 my opinion is that he is not serious about studies. I suggest that he takes up some small job and earns his money then goes for studies. Every one who is offering to help him should do a background check of this guy. He should be told the Tulu saying " Paje inttinathe car budu".

We are good in protests but very bad in charity. His student friends would have contributed some money and helped him out. Management also should have shown some good heart.

Poor Boy should have been allowed to write the exam, if he was not notified by the Principal not to sit for the exams..... In the same way... there are no Free lunches, I think the colleagues could have contributed the amount jointly to Help him instead of Protesting to cover their guilt of not being able to help him, If they are concerned, Just contribute.

I fully support your view Mr. Aubb, Kuwait. What was important was to appear him for the exam without fail. If all these people, including students and media personnel had given little contribution, candidate would have been able attend the exam. Fact is that, students are ready to spend for High class mobile, 3G/4G, eatouts but not ready to spend for any troubled colleagues.
Management has certain set of rules which they have to follow, otherwise, it will be same as politics (corruption) and also mismanagement. The guy who refused to issue the Hall Ticket would be questioned if he does not follow management rules if that will be the case, then do you this students would have called the media for if management sacks him. Dont be silly.

Very sad to know the situation. Instead of complaining and making noise after exams students should have contributed and made him to appear for the exams. Its not a big Amount. With reason may be he could not pay the balance amount pending.

IF these brainless students had chipped in just Rs.50/- each, Ajay would have appeared the exams easily.

His teachers could have come forward too..........

What is the use of shouting slogans in front of DW cameras when the opportunity to help their fellow student is lost???

there was simple solution. Instead of creating so much of issue, every students would have donated something so that fees can be paid and ajay can appear to the exam. Guyz think of how to solve the problem not creating the problem.

I think what management could have done is tow allow the student to appear for the exam, withhold his result / issue of certificate until dues are cleared. this would be fair.
I think DC should immediately intervene in this matter

and those who have written even one exam in their entire life know that, every kid has to go through to all deparemtns, like Library, mess, labs, accounts, lectureers (for attendance shortage) and whole lot of departments and get NO DUES CERTIFICATE, without which you will not get hall ticket, no matter how big chatrapati you are!! colleges are not there for charity... if you are a fresship student, then government has to pay your fees in time to avoid such things! the student is unfit to be a engineer otherwise! dont make it look like nirdayi administration, please! yee javane jokulen ottu malthd office povare, aayena ammerna colleg-a..yenchi saav maare!

i am with management on this issue... the guy should have arranged for the school fees..!! it is like eating in a hotel and not paying..!! with food and vidya, there should not be any cheating!!..

I am sure, these kids, will have enough money to recharge their expensive phones, or whatsapp, FB datapackages!... he infact has a backlog paper, so tells me, his seriousness on studies!

however, if I was an employee, I would have paid, for his fees and got it later, just make him write the paper... or taken some undertaking!! ... anyways, SIDDRAMAYYA will have SNORING SLEEP, since he is not a secular candidate here -)
