Beltangady: Attempt on wife's life through torching - woman hospitalized

Beltangady, Dec 30: In a ghastly incident, a person residing at Devagiri near Gandibagilu in the taluk poured kerosene on his wife before torching her. The incident occurred on Monday December 29.

Tommy (47) from the said village has been accused of trying to immolate his wife, Mary (40). Mary was admitted into a hospital in Kankanady, Mangaluru, with critical burn wounds.

Mary's husband, after finding that his wife was dying, ran away to a nearby hillock. After the flames started to burn down the entire house, neighbours noticed the fire, and brought Mary out. It is said that Mary, who was rushed by neighbours to Mangaluru, is facing danger to her life.

Tommy happens to be a rubber tapper by profession. It is thought that he was in a drunken state when torching his wife. The couple has three sons.

Beltangady police have registered a case. Investigation has begun.
