Mangaluru: Theft from two apartments in same building

Mangaluru, Dec 30: In a strange incident, thefts were committed from two residential flats in Pawan Apartments on Jail Road here by miscreants who took advantage of the brief absence of respective occupants.

Unknown thieves broke into the house of Dr Deekshit N G on the third floor of the said complex between 4 pm on December 27 and 6.30 pm on on December 28. It is said that gold ornaments and silver valuables worth Rs 3,44,000 were taken away by the thieves, who cut the bolt of the front door with some sharp object. The stolen valuables were placed inside the cupboard kept in the bedroom. Dr Deekshit and his family had been to native place, Badiyadka in Kasargod, when the theft occurred.

The house of Shalini S Hegde, located on the sixth floor, was burgled between 8.30 am on December 28 and 2.30 pm on the same day. Gold ornaments, cash, and silver glass, worth Rs 1,05,500 were stolen by the thieves in this case. The thieves gained entry into this apartment by yanking open the lock and breaking open the inner lock of the front door as well as the lock of the bedroom cupboard in this case. Shalini had locked her house and gone out during this period.

Relating to both these thefts, complaints were registered in Kadri police station.
