Udupi: New Year celebration directives in Udupi district

Udupi, Dec 30: The public, hotels, restaurants, clubs, resorts, groups, and associations in the district have been asked to follow the following rules during New Year celebrations.
· New Year celebrations that will start at night on December 31, 2014, at hotels, restaurants, clubs, resorts, groups, associations, and special gatherings should conclude by 12.30 am.

· Restaurants and hotels serving liquor which intend to conduct programmes beyond the time stipulated by the government should obtain permission from the revenue department in writing. A copy of such permission should be submitted to the local police station.

· Those who have obtained such permission should also conclude their programmes by 12.30 am.

· Students and youth should not act in an indecent manner on the roads in the name of New Year celebrations. Legal action will be taken against those who act indecently.

· Owners and organizers of New Year celebrations in hotels, restaurants, clubs, resorts, and associations should submit an application for permission to the office of the police commissioner before 4 pm on December 31, 2014, and get approval. The celebrations should be held within their respective premises.

· Those who are using loud speakers should make sure that the sound is just enough for their area. They should keep the sound low.

· Organizers of special gatherings in hotels, clubs, etc. should take preventive measures to ensure that there are no untoward incidents.

· Nude, semi-nude dancing, or gambling during cultural programmes in the name of New Year celebrations is banned.

· Celebrants of New Year should not irritate people on the roads by attempting to greet them.

· Legal action will be taken against those who tease or act indecently with girls and women by attempting to greet them.

· Suitable legal action will be taken against those who drive under the influence of alcohol.

· Unauthorized gatherings or indecent behaviour in front of the houses of others, on the premises of students’ hostels, working women's hostels or wishing people New Year by force is banned.

· Burning of crackers or fireworks in a manner that will disturb the peace of the people is banned.

· Consumption of alcohol on seashores and beaches or indecent behaviour in such places is banned.

· In cases of law and order problems, the applicants will be held responsible. The organizers of programmes should strictly follow the rules in the letter of permission.
