Mangaluru/Udupi, Dec 31: Senior IPS officer S Murugan has been appointed the new police commissioner of Mangaluru city.

Also, ASP Annamalai, who recently took additional charge of Kundapur, has been appointed the superintendent of police (SP) of Udupi district.

The order for transfers was passed on Wednesday December 31.

Murugan will be replacing the present city police commissioner R Hitendra, while Annamalai will take over from Rajendra Prasad, who took up the post less than 5 months ago. Prasad has been transferred to the Intelligence Wing in Bengaluru.

R Hitendra has been transferred to the IG department in Bengaluru.

Also, DCP (law and order) Dr K V Jagadish has been transferred and Santhosh Babu, an IPS officer appointed in his place. Dr Jagadish is awaiting his new post.

The new police commissioner Murugan hails from Tamil Nadu and is an IPS officer of 1997 batch. He has held several posts and has even won the President's Medal for meritorius service.

Murugan is currently serving as the IG and commander of Anti-Naxal Force in Bengaluru. He has earlier served as SP of Mysuru and Shivamogga districts, DIG of CID, Bengaluru, deputy IGP, Karnataka State Industrial Security Force (Internal Security Division), Bengaluru, and so on.

Annamalai, ASP of Karkala and Kundapur taluks, hails from Coimbatore. Born to J R Kuppeswamy and K Parameshwari, he has done BE in mechanical engineering and MBA. He is an IPS officer of 2011 batch. His first posting itself was ASP of Karkala. Under his guidance, the Karkala police station achieved the tag of a model police station. On November 29 this year, he was given the additional charge of Kundapur.
