Tumakuru: Four perish in ghastly accident

Tumakuru, Jan 1: Four persons died after a truck ploughed into a Maruti van that had been parked by the roadside after developing problems on Wednesday December 31. The accident occurred near Kallambella in Sira taluk in the district.

It is learnt that the truck was coming from Tumakuru. It hit the van stationed by the side of national highway 4 and the two-wheeler that was moving in front of it. Some accounts said the two-wheeler riders were helping out with replacement of punctured tyre of the van.

Senthil Kumar and Varadaraju, who were in the Maruti van, as well as Shivaprasad (25) from Chikkanayakanapalya in Gubbi taluk of the district and Jnanesh from Bengaluru, who were riding in the two-wheeler, lost their lives. While those in the van died on the spot, the other two died in the district hospital here later in the day.

It is said that the occupants of the van were dealers in a particular brand of mosquito repellants.

A case was registered in this respect in Kallambella police station where investigation is progressing.
