Bidar, Jan 1: A case was registered in Basavakalyana town police station against Sharanappa Sajjan, senior division civil judge of Basavakalyana,who had recently resigned after being caught red-handed by vigilance cell, and two persons who reportedly supported him.

District superintendent of police (SP), Sudhir Kumar Reddy, informed on Wednesday December 31 that cases were registered against Baburao Biradar and Kaushik Biradar in addition to Sajjan.

Sajjan, who was nabbed when accepting bribe on December 22, had resigned thereafter. He had however, claimed after resigning that he had been falsely framed through trickery. Two others face allegations of trying to shield the judge.

The SP explained that the case was registered on the basis of a complaint filed by district chief and sessions judge, Sanjeev Kumar Hachate. Out of the accused, Baburao Biradar, has already been arrested, he added. Reddy said that investigation has been taken up by Humnabad assistant superintendent of police, Dharmendra Kumar Meena. He explained that recommendations have already been made to the inspector general of police and director general of police to entrust the case to Lokakyukta.

A person named Keertiraj Posthe had complained to the district judge, alleging that the above judge had demanded bribe for writing favourable judgment relating to dispute on a property. The vigilance cell personnel had laid out a trap and caught Sajjan when accepting money from Posthe.
