Six engineering students killed in Kerala road mishap

Kollam, Jan 1 (PTI): Tragedy struck as six engineering students returning from a New Year party were killed when their car and an LPG tanker collided in the wee hours of the day at nearby Chathannur.

The deceased were identified as Ajith Prakash, Syed Inzamam, Arun Babu, Shijo George John, Adirshah and Nixon.

According to police, the victims, all men in third year of BTech, were heading to their campus after the New Year celebrations at the beach resort Varkala in neighbouring Thiruvananthapuram district.

All of the six, who died on the spot, were students of a private engineering college here.

The bodies were taken out by police and local rescuers by breaking open the car, which got jammed under the impact of the collision with the tanker that was coming from the opposite direction.

The driver of the tanker has been taken into custody, police said.

    Feel sorry for the parents and especially a great loss to our Country, who has lost its future Job creators. Whom to blame?? Road, Reckless Tanker Drivers, the careless students or the Authorities??? Understand the seriousness of the loss, analyse and bring solution for eliminating recurrence. Instead, our great patriotic citizens are busy taking up issues related to animals, cows, conversions, destroying public property while protesting, resulting in loss of productivity and destruction of valuable human resource. How many incidents we need as eye openers?? why we support a few bunch of actors of patriotism, who only preach but do not practice?? Wake up dear parents, and support for the right cause of development of society.......

    Those days they were few vehicles & was safe to ride bicycles.Now nothing is safe ,because the roads do not have proper bicycle/pedestrian paths,so these people take roads for their movements. Due to this, vehicles to avoid collision with cyclist/pedestrian,stray animals they themselves meet with accidents.Also our roads are not designed for present days heavy traffic & no proper maintenance of roads .
