Mangaluru. Jan 1: Minister of state for commerce and industry Nirmala Sitharaman will attend a seminar organized by Mangaluru Initiative for Nationalist Dialogue (Mind) on January 3 at Sangha Niketan here at 5 pm.
Nirmala Sitharaman will deliver a lecture on the subject 'Commerce policy for the future India'.
Addressing a press meet here on Thursday January 1, Sunil Achar, president of Citizens' Council said, "This will be her first visit to the city after becoming the union minister. Her achievements as a minister for the past 6 months have drawn the attention of economic policy makers in India as well as abroad. In the international forum on GATT agreement, she had made clear amid international pressures that the assistance provided to farmers cannot be withdrawn. She is admired for this achievement."
"As minister she is in charge of 'Make in India' movement initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. She is going to emphasis on future economic policies of her government in her lecture" he added.
The ministry is entrusted with formulating and implementing the foreign trade policy and responsibilities relating to multilateral and bilateral commercial relations, state trading, export promotion measures, and development and regulation of certain export oriented industries and commodities which include arecanut, coconut, cocoa and cashew, the major crops of the region, he explained.
