Dubai, Jan 1 (PTI): A dazzling show of New Year's eve gala using 70,000 LED bulbs around the world's tallest building Burj Khalifa here has broken the Guinness World Record of the 'Largest LED-Illuminated Facade'.

The never-before-seen show of fireworks, Light Emitting Diode lights and laser beam displays became one of the world's most-watched New Year's Eve spectacle with residents and visitors from around the world thronging around the 829.8 metres tall skyscraper to watch the display.

The illumination around Burj Khalifa spanned 32,467 square metres and it surpassed the existing record held by Mall Taman Anggrek in Indonesia. The LED screen area around the skyscraper was nearly 3.75 times larger.

The record-breaking LED display had 70,000 LED bulbs placed in position using over 100,000 brackets and linked using 55,000 metres of cabling for the perfect visual display.
The event was also live streamed with four different camera angles including aerial views from three drones. Live telecast through major international channels reached billions of people worldwide.

"The celebration brings hope and joy for a better tomorrow and a promising new era of growth in Dubai, a global city that provides opportunity and environment for business and personal growth," Ahmad Al Matrooshi, MD of Emaar Properties, said.

The fireworks, laser show and multimedia display used the world's most advanced pyrotechnics and LED illumination technologies.

Professionals from around the world worked on the project with over 192,000 man-hours devoted to the gala. Around 200 skilled professionals were tasked with the project and over 4.7 tonnes of fireworks were used for the fireworks display with 25,000 shots lighting up the sky.

The perfectly synchronised fireworks used over 25,000 metres of cabling, some rising up to tip of Burj Khalifa's spire for the crowning effect.

Arab countries? The only Arab countries providing employment are the Gulf nations.

And remember that if the Gulf region had about a billion people with fewer resources, then you would know how difficult it is to manage the whole thing.

Mind blowing New Year's celebration. Dubai will break all records including this Guinness Record. I worked in Dubai many years back and visited several times after moving to New York with my family and every time this place is better and better. It is all due to the government who are ruling this country and making a better living for people working in UAE.

People want fun. Money or pollution is not a problem for them. Some companies got a chance to show case their technical skills and made money out of others entertainment.

OK. Ok. Let it go.... Earth may survive for some more time. Till then let us enjoy. Let us enjoy till all our natural resources become empty. Our generation know well to make it empty at a superfast rate. We want to enjoy life TODAY na... ?

At least on the new year day, leave the negative thoughts behind and enjoy the fireworks! As far as uplifting the poor, downtrodden, India has been doing it since independence!

This is a spectacular show to attract tourists and for the enjoyment of tourists and locals as well. This is one of the items to generate income. Next year people will around the world will make it a point to be there at this time of the year....!!!
As for those poor people, they have different Ministry who donate, build homes, feed educate etc. which can not be shown like in fireworks display.
It is wrong to say they are wasting so much of money on fireworks display. It has a purpose.

You may even say, when you see the feeding the poor so much that they are wasting so much of money on those useless poor people!!!.
For everything that is done\spent for the good, for the pleasure, for the convenience, for appeasing the hunger of the people, to give free education - people have comments, like your comment here.
    Nothing new

    Dear Mann, Bangalore/Rahul India

Arab Countries r providing Employment for millions of Expatriates including Indians. Their leaders r also donate a lot of funds to Charitable Institutions.Arabs have vision for their Country. They provide best infrastructure like roads, fly overs Tunnels etc. whereby our people enjoy the facilities. Whereas our Corrupt politicians hide their wealth under their beds in Gunny bags instead of feeding millions of poor in India.

I think even in DK we have to come up with somewhat similar programs which will attract tourists. It is very sad to see that in india we only focus on historical place to attract tourist where as i think if we conduct something different which will atract outsiders .People have always traveled to experience scenery and culture and also to witness somewhat unique things . PEACE

India is loosing tourists because of rapes and attacks taking place and other safety issues. If someone reads the comments and hatred messages on these columns they will never come to India. More western tourists are now going to Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand than coming t India. If these communal riots and attacks on females continue, there will a time when no one will visit India.
