Bus service between Mangaluru-Mumbai stopped indefinitely

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (RJP)

Mangaluru, Jan 2: Buses functioning between Mumbai and Mangaluru will be out of action from Friday, January 2 till issues between the bus federation and the drivers are sorted out.

As per reports, a bus belonging to Anand Travels was stopped and checked by a company person on Thursday January 1. Extra passengers were found‎ in the cabin of the bus. The driver of the bus named Vijay and the company person had an argument regarding this which led to a fight.

No buses will be available till further notice as all bus drivers will be on strike. One of the striking drivers speaking to Daijiworld said that "They are telling us not to let passengers sit in the cabin. Let them follow the Supreme Court order on the loading of luggage in buses."

Presently only buses by VRL and KSRTC are available for passengers. As per one estimate, more than 25 buses ply between two cities.

good what you said.according to me when driver pick ups such kind of passengers without knowing thier indentity there are chances that they may be thieves.what if they rob something belonging to passengers in the bus?what if the bus meets with an accident?in such case there will be no insurance coverage for people sitting on the cabin

Drivers and conductors of private bus are some what badly treated by their owners as there is no security for them, such as no insurance, no fixed salary, forced for diesel mileage, poor accommodation, owners never take drivers side, they always take passenger side even though no mistake of driver (pick-up and ping problem) drivers always face big trouble from RTO while ping and pick-up in city like MUMBAI. Driver has huge responsibility of safety of passengers. Fighting with Driver is not done, it is totally wrong

    Note to owners of Bus:
You load cargo on buses and cashew tins for delivery in Vashi.
The guy who manages the show is your driver.
You can allow him to make some extra bucks , without any loss to you.
You scratch my back and I scratch yours.
Give and take my friend. It is business.
START THE SERVICES FAST. I WANT TO GO TO KUNDAPURA. THE GOOSE IS GETTING FEDUP.

Frankly speaking people should avoid using these buses as there is no control on rates which they charge and it is advisable to use train by booking in advance and even we can afford flights if we book well in advance. The present rate prevailing from 3700 to 4200 per ticket charged by VRL is totally unjustified and the Government and RTO should interfere and regularize the prices as some of the people cant afford paying this hefty amount.
Even they should charge uniform charges in consultation with Regional Transport Authorities as such there is a sharp fall in diesel prices since last 6 months

I was travelling by Anand from Mumbai to Mangalore. Very bad service. They stopped at Moodbidri and didn't even tell us anything. Only when we asked they told us that we had to board another bus to Mangalore. They put us in a bus owned by Vishal travels. They wasted our time. Because of them I reached in the afternoon when actually I was supposed to reach by 8 in the morning. And the condition of the bus was worst than their service. Broken seats, dirty seat covers. Disappointed. Would not recommend Anand to anyone.

@rudolph, I completely agree with you. I had traveled last year in May 2014, paid rs 1400 for Anand non a/c bus, there was no legroom space at all, worst part being the arm rest of seat was broken and the rusted iron out of it was hurting my hand, They charge good rates on season time, and buses they offer you non/ac ones are fit to be put to scrap.

I travel quite often by bus to Mangalore from Mumbai, I find that except VRL all the other buses have a pathetic service. The other companies act as though passengers travel for free especially the agents who run trips.

Not all the drivers are doing so Only few of them dont blame the entier union .There are some who gives the payment of cabin seat to the owners. The checking is also done by owners themselves.

I don't understand this, Whats wrong if two or three people are given space in cabin to sit, and anyways this has been going on for nearly 30 years or so on Mbai - Mlore route. Why a bonfire issue is being made about this now.

Mr Vijay, the person has raised a valid point, traveling in cabin has become quite common, In India the problem is that, people act too smart, they pretend to be clean themselves and somewhat take pride in accusing others, YOU VERY WELL SEEM TO BE FROM THAT CLASS, OVERSMART. Ask this question in front of a mirror on how much clean you are in life.

Drivers get a decent salary in private buses, in spite of which they stop at unauthorised places and pick up stray passengers for extra money. Helpers demand money from alighting passengers for keeping/handing over personal luggage in the holds. After reaching their respective destinations in the morning, tired passengers often pay handsome tips without arguing .

The bus owner should take strict action against the driver as well as the cleaners. Drivers halt for breaks for dinner/lunch where they get good food free and their expenses are passed on passengers with extra charges. Cleaners charge extra just to keep passengers luggage for loading/unloading and make quick bucks.

Agree with you sir. A common man cannot afford to pay 4000 for one seat. Family of four means 12000.
Dear Ramesh, I paid 2500 for one way ticket last weekend when other normal season is 1500. Is it not very high.No choice dear trains are always full if not planned in advance.

As i am a frequent traveller and know both the drivers and owners, i was trying to understand what was happening here. Understanding from what i have heard it is the fault of the driver himself and we all know that how these drivers have been and there is no need for an explaination. The owners really struggle a lot to provide the best bus service to public inspite of the field not being much profitable from past few years. And i really appreciate them for that. The existing few companies never skyrocket the price like others and function within their limit of pricing which we all must know. Having people appointed to make checks is a real good move, most of the passengers have been appreciating this process. The bus drivers are worried as they can’t fill their pockets if checks happen. I think it is we the passengers who have to take things in hand and set right the owners and the drivers to improve our traveling experience.
Both the parties better compromise and resume the services as it is affecting many especially the children. May god be with you all!

Drivers and Cleaners are only employees of the company and have to obey their employers and have no right to demand anything like how a bus is to run.

Both drivers and owners are responsible for the mess. Owners charge tickets in black during peak seasons.Drivers try to make money by putting seats as they are paid very less for 1000km journey.Passengers who have booked tickets and children who have to join school after Christmas holidays are suffering. No tickets in train, Ksrtc, VRL, SRS etc.Charges sky rocketing.

Mr. Rudolph Rodrigues has made very valid observations. Overloading buses - allowing passengers to travel within the cabin of the drivers - stopping at non-designated bus stops are regular occurrences.

Let no one black mail the people. If private buses stop operations KSRTC will render excellent services. It is time that The Government makes serious note of this situation.

Now this is the example of a 'Oxi-moron'. He wants Supreme court to tell him that having passengers in cabins and aisles and making life miserable for other legitimate paid passengers is crime against his God and humanity as a whole. Driver man my buddy there is something called ethics and you can't justify your illegal actions for that of the bus owners. You guys do have some balls, I give you that, but we need drivers with brains too.
We the people have to put an end to this nonsense. This is going on for too long, drivers carry hitchhikers and owners ferry dangerous/flammable goods.
Common passenger is the victim here not the driver or owner. As long as we have corrupt RTC it will continue and unfortunately I don't see a end to this any time one Modi can't fix all morons.

    Competitors try to become monopolists.

Pvt. bus operators get the maximum income possible in each trip by loading the bus dickey with all sorts of items making full usage of each trip!!

Many pvt. bus drivers pick up passengers en way and pocket the money, sometimes it can come to a big packet if the bus is empty as there are lots of travelers waiting as early as 4 AM in Pune area to rush to Mumbai!

It is best to travel in state run KSRTC buses, which offer services better than most pvt. operators and do not indulge in all these illegal activities due to fear of punishment!
