Kundapur, Jan 3: The four lane project work on national highway has completed three years now. But the misery does not end. Still the roadworthy highway is not to be seen.

In between widening of road and tarring, the large potholes that are formed have posed nightmares to those who are
driving to reach their destination. The incomplete work at Shastri circle, the heart of Kundapur has pestered the people.

Though the work had picked up speed in the beginning, due to the episode of Navayug Construction owner Jagan Reddy, it has lagged
behind. The government officials have taken that as the excuse to remain indifferent toward the work.

It is not to say that work has stopped completely. You can see the contractors coming here with machinery once in a while with their machinery and equipment. But the work is carried out only for few days. Then the contractors vanish from the scene only to come back after few weeks.

Because of the barricade erected on the highway during work in progress, the flow of vehicular traffic is affected. The compalints to concerened authorities have not yielded any results yet.

Drainage problem

The drainage water is flowing beside NH 66 and an amount of Rs 38 lacs was collected from people and spent on the work.
As there was no replacement system for the drainage the pipes had broken during the highway work. An appeal to the town municipal
council and highway authority has yielded no fruits.

This is my India... no words to express my feelings. I just hope and pray things will get better.

If there are no pre-project surveys, improper planning, bad engineering, political disputes and corruptions the end results are these.

    What are the corrective measures?

Shameful these things happen in these modern days and people witness but do not speak.

It is very sad to notice that our Highways, Ghat Roads, Flyovers & bridges all r in bad shape which I believe most of them were built by Britishers but failed to maintain properly by our Corrupt Politicians & third grade contractors. At this rate I feel that we have to call tenders from some foreign companies soon to provide us better infrastructure.

    Praveen, Udupi,

Probably Shobakka is busy in her Coffee Estate,in Chickmagalure, as it is coffee season & hence I believe she is supervising Coffee beans picking by workers.

What is Nitin Gadkari, as an Union Transport Minister in Charge of National Highways is doing now. Forget about Oscar now as he is no more in the Picture. U have two more efficient BJP MPs in the Area. Where they r hiding.Whether they have already claimed their MP funds of RS.5 Crores each for the current year & if so can U brief us as to how they have utilized their funds.
