Mangaluru, Jan 4: Four women were saved by lifeguards of Beach Tourism Development Project from drowning near Someshwar on Saturday January 3.

Those who were dragged out of the jaws of death have been identified as Poornima (32), Geetha (31), and Sanjeevathi (22), who work as teachers in Anekal taluk of Haveri district. These teachers had visited Someshwara temple for tour, and after paying obeisance there, had ventured to the beach. When climbing up the stone near Rudrapade at the beach, one of the teachers got caught in huge waves of the sea. The other two teachers, in an attempt to save the first one, also faced peril to their lives. The lifeguards at the spot rushed to their rescue and succeeded in saving them.

In another incident at the same spot, Shashi (19) from Bengaluru was saved. A couple from Bengaluru, overlooking warning of lifeguards, had scaled the heap of stones and were capturing pictures of the sea, when Shashi slipped and fell into the sea. Lifeguards jumped to her help and brought her out.

The lifeguards involved with the operations were Ashok Someshwar, Kiran Ombattukere, Venkatesh and Mohan, who work for Panambur Beach Tourism Development Project.
