Bengaluru, Jan 5: 'The people have elected this government to bring changes in the systems. It it fails to bring these changes, what is the use of such a government?' questioned assembly speaker, Kagodu Thimmappa.

Speaking to reporters here on Sunday January 4, Kagodu said after getting chosen as speaker, he had been striving to bring in the changes as desired by the populace. The people voted Congress party to power to bring desired change. 'The state is facing acute shortage of doctors and medical facilities. Forest department officials are functioning like dictators. The government is not asserting itself to the desired extent in implementing laws passed by the assembly. The officials are not right in evicting dwellers of forest land just because of court order or legal provisions. If there are any lacunae in either the law or court ruling, the officials should appraise the concerned, rather than blindly acting on them,' he opined.

He said that the bill on acquisition of Maths and religious institutions was tabled in tune with the affidavit filed by the previous government in the Supreme Court. He added that there is provision to withdraw the bill if the people are against it.

Kagodu explained that his angry salvos against the government are not born out of any enmity. 'Our relationship can be compared to that of a mother and son. A mother becomes angry to bring improvements,' he narrated. About the assembly session, he said repairs are underway at the Vidhan Sabha and that the session may begin during February first week.
