Beltangady, Jun 6: After several steps were taken to address the problem of traffic blockage and congestion occurring at Charmadi Ghat road subsequent to diversion of traffic from Shiradi Ghat section of national highway, the road users heaved a sigh of relief on Monday June 5. The traffic was relatively smooth.

Under the supervision of officials, road stretches on Charmadi Ghat are being widened, mounds of mud are being removed, and land is levelled wherever there is height difference between the road and the earth.Pot holes are also being filled up.

Some make-shift shops have come up on the road to serve increased traffic, although complaints are heard about quality of items supplied and exorbitant rates charged for travellers.

Heavy vehicles are being routed through Bajagoli-Kudremukh-Moodigere route from Ujire. Traffic has increased in fGuruvayanakere, Beltangadi, Ujire etc. It is to be seen whether Kudremukh road will be able to absorb extra traffic. Many have been advising people using light vehicles to move to Bengaluru via Agumbe and Shivamogga in view of conveniences and time taken for the travel.
