Bengaluru, Jan 6: State government is facing opposition from BJP regarding transfer of police investigating officer Hemanth Nimbalkar

A day before Mehdi was produced before a local court by the police, the city's joint commissioner of investigating (crime) Hemanth Nimbalkar was transferred out of the police wing.

The Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday January 6 strongly opposed the move and criticised the Karnataka government.

Addressing the media, BJP leader Jagadish Shettar stated,"The transfer of the investigating officer in the ISIS twitter account will be a diversion from the entire investigation. The state government should not transfer any state officers who are currently handling the case. The officers have to continue and proceed with the case in an unbiased way. It also goes against national integration. I urge the state government not to interfere in the investigation of such cases," he said.

Karnataka Home Minister KJ George said,"We are taking the case very seriously as the investigation is already going on. NIA and other agencies are also involved," he said.

Mehdi Masroor Biswas was arrested last month by the Bangalore Police for operating a pro- ISIS Twitter account. Britain's Channel 4 News had stated that the @ShamiWitness account which had 17,700 followers was run by an executive based in Bengaluru.

According to its reports the executive was ready to join the Islamic State if his family was not dependant on him. It had also tweeted the execution of US aid worker Peter Kassig and other videos, moments after they first appeared on the internet.
