Police seize pan masala products worth lacs in Manjeshwar

Kasargod, Jan 7: Manjeshwar station police have seized pan masala products valued at several lacs being transported in the guise of tea powder.




The pan masala products were found in the Kerala state corporation bus plying from Mangaluru to Ernakulam. The products were filled in 25 sacs and the sacs were kept in mill-board boxes.

A group of people had made the bus staff believe that it is tea powder while loading it in the bus. The products were meant for delivery to 22 places including Cochin, Shornooru and Ernakulam.

The names of places were written on the boxes. The illegal transport has come to light after the bus was inspected.

Pan masala products are banned in Kerala since the last two years.After that, a large amount of pan masala products are being illegally transported to Kerala.

A consignment of pan masala was seized from Manjeshwar two weeks ago. It was found in a van.

    Very good job by police. Central government should ban tobacco in all forms. If they can not then what is the harm in legalizing marijuana and other banned substances too. Central government should not look for revenues while jeopardizing the health of citizens.
