Puttur: 'Education on Indian culture not saffronization' - Governor

Daijiworld Media Network - Puttur (SP)

Puttur, Jan 8: 'Some people deem education in Indian culture and refinement as saffronization. Irrespective of these objections, we will ensure that important aspects of our culture and refinement are implemented. Work on this issue has begun and will continue. We are committed to continue with this task,' said Karnataka governor, Vajubhai Vala.

He was speaking after inaugurating the centenary celebrations of Vivekananda degree and PU College here on Wednesday January 7. 'We want to carry forward the education and cultural refinement inherited by us from our forefathers to our next generation,' he explained.

Dwelling on the subject further, Vala pointed out that great personalities of India like Shankaracharya, Bhagawan Mahaveer, Bhagawan Buddha etc have left behind divine preaching, messages, advices, knowledge etc. Can one brand it as saffronization if we give education on these aspects to our children?' he questioned. He said that this education will be continued to be imparted irrespective of with what name it is branded by critics.

He expressed happiness at the fact that Vivekananda College had given education to 30,000 students so far, who have risen to various positions in the society. He wished that this institution will grow in stature and contribute fine citizens to the country.

Chief postmaster general of Karnataka zone, M S Ramanujan, released the special postal envelope brought out to commemorate centenary celebrations of the college. Dakshina Kannada MP, Nalin Kumar Kateel, who released the souvenir, 'Suvarna Viveka' brought out on the occasion, praised the institution for its contributions to the society.

MLA, Shankuntala T Shetty, expressed happiness at the fact that Vivekanda College has carved out a niche for itself by providing high quality education.

Former MLA and founder convener of Vivekananda Vidyavardhaka Sangha, Urimajalu K Rama Bhat, and principal of Vivekananda PU College, Jeevandas, were present. Principal of Vivekananda PU College, Dr H Madhava Bhat, S R Rangamurthy, welcomed. Prof A V Narayana, general secretary of Golden Jubilee Celebrations Committee, proposed vote of thanks.

    @Shaleen,
    For your information :
There have been world renowned educational institutions all over Europe, Egypt, Iraq, China even in the medieval ages, as well as many scientists who have lead to the progress of modern day science in every aspect of life, and it's no comparison with India in the first place.
when it comes to global ranking of universities and technical and other institutions, India's ranking is very very poor compared to the West.
India is far behind China in registering new patents annually on a global scale too why??
We have read enough of Rama, Seetha, Ravana, Buddha, Mahavira, Vivekananda, and your friend Godse in our text books since many decades, and as such Governor seems to be not having any productive topic for the occasion but talk about an issue that has taken care of more than necessary for the last 60 years.
You must also remember that :
There is no such thing as "Indian Culture" as India is a "Multi" religious, cultural, ethnic country, and in spite of the above, has remained a peace loving country until communal minded politicians who have no national agendas have been trying to take center stage through their dubious schemes which is harmful for the interest of India.

    @ Judith,
Salute you for your impartial opinion.

    @ Shaleen, Mangalore.

You sound like teaching a small kid, what it means to be patriotic, loving the mother land bla bla bla.

    I warn you :

I am no less patriotic than you or any Indian that has not been outside of India.

Come to Gulf and appreciate what we do for our motherland directly and indirectly, instead of writing without any meaning or purpose.

Search for the financial statistics of NRIs who contribute more than the total FDI that India attracts every year!!

Majority of the Hindus in India are broad minded, civilized and peace loving. A small percentage of them are radical or extremist and they think that they own India. This is the root cause of all the problems. Some extremist leaders like Bhagwat, Advani, Amit Shah and Togadia are fueling their ideology.

"He was speaking after inaugurating the centenary celebrations of Vivekananda degree and PU College here on Wednesday January 7."

Vivekananda PU College has not completed 100 years yet. It was formed somewhere around in 1966-67 at the upper floor of Molahalli Shiva Rao Cooperative Society, Puttur and some classes were taught at the Union Club Puttur. I was there then.

I can see some of the commentators brining Ex-Governor Bharadwaj name.

    He never gave divisive statements

He never gave a statements which hurted people from any communities.

But he did only one thing that he supported Lokayukta to Prosecute corrupt Yeddy-Reddy gang.Is this wrong?
Criminals who are belongs to Sang parivar should be lived freely without any punishment?

Governor should not tread on topics which are controversial and embroiled in political debates. Indian Education system has always appreciated and accomodated the contribution of fellow Indians in shaping our history. Governors office should not reflect a tit for tat ie., Bharadway Vs Yediyurappa and Vala Vs Siddaramaiah or Congress Vs BJP. It is a constitutional office (though headed by politicians) and the dignity of the office needs to be upheld by the incumbent.
