Chikkaballapur, Jan 8: M C Madhu from Malamachanahalli near Shidlaghatta in the district was arrested by the police on Wednesday January 7. He has been charged with murdering Devaraju (45) from the same village. It is gathered that Madhu was angry over the fact that Devaraju rejected his proposal to marry the latter's father.

It is learnt that Madhu was in love with Devaraju's daughter. Devaraju, who came to know about this, called Madhu and warned him against coming close to his daughter. Madhu remained silent for sometime, before including his friend, Bhaskar, in hatching a plan.

On Tuesday January 6 night, Madhu invited Devaraju to join him for a party he had arranged outside the village. He laced the liquor served to Devaraju with poison, as a result of which Devaraju breathed his last.

Shidlaghatta rural police said they have arrested Madhu on the basis of complaint filed by Devaraju's daughter. Devaraju's relatives had prepared to conduct his cremation in front of the house of Madhu, but police intervened and dissuaded them from doing so.
