Stage is set for 'Kavita Fest 2015' at Chowlikere, Barkur

Mangaluru, Jan 8: Kavita Trust is an organization which works for the promotion of Konkani poetry. Regular poetry sessions, poetry lectures, poetry writing competitions, poetry reciting competitions, poetry award, publications are some of its activities. It also runs its own website for the past 10 years.

For the past 8 years it has been organising poetry festivals in various places of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts. The 9th edition of Kavita Fest will be held on January 11 in the courtyard of Stany and Gretta Lewis, Chowlikere, Barkur, Udupi.


Pascal Alan Nazareth, Madhav Borcar

The retired ambassador of India, Pascal Alan Nazareth will inaugurate this festival. Basti Vaman Shenoy, president, Konkani Language and Cultural Foundation and Naveen Dias, president, the Expressions will be the guests of honour during the occasion. Eminent poet from Goa, Madhav Borcar will be the chief guest for the valedictory programme in the evening. M. A. Rahman and Fr Valerian Mendonca, parish priest of Barkur church, will be the guests of honour.



Maxim Lobo's book of essays on poetry will be released in the inaugural session. There will be a poetry session which will be presided by Purnananda Chari. While CGS Taccode, Felcy Lobo, Jnandev Mallya, Neelba Khandekar, Yogini Acharya, Eric Soans recite their Konkani poems, Salma from Chennai will recite Tamil poems. Namitha Varma and V. K. Yadav will recite English and Tulu poems respectively.

There will be an interaction session with Sahitya Akademi award winning poet Ramesh Veluskar and Dr. Rajay Pawar. The final round of poetry reciting competition for children and youth will be held, Iqbal Sayeedi from Bhatkal will be awarded with the Mathias family poetry award and prizes for the winners of poetry writing competition will be given during the occasion.
