Mangalore, Dec 18: A workshop for judges and public prosecutors on Probation Offenders Act and Juvenile Justice Act was held at Prajna Counselling Centre here on Sunday December 17.

The workshop was jointly organised by Dakshina Kannada District Legal Services Authority, Prajna Counselling Centre and Department of Women and Child Welfare. District and sessions judge and president of District Legal Services Authority H M Bharatesh inaugurated the workshop.

Speaking on the occasion, superintendent of police B Dayanand called for a reformation in the police department and said that there was a need to create awareness about Probation Offenders Act and Juvenile Justice Act among the police as there was an increase in crimes committed by teenagers. He said that teenagers were getting influenced by movies and involving themselves in crimes like theft.

First additional civil judge (senior division) N S Mohammedapura and district Child Welfare Committee chairperson Prof Hilda Rayappan, principal civil judge and chief judicial magistrate N C Srinivas and Women and Child Welfare Department deputy director Gertrude Veigas were present.
