- Alumni Re-union of Little Rock Indian School held
Udupi, Dec 18: “Corruption is a great curse that is destroying our society. Unless citizens become more alert, and stop giving bribes, this malady cannot be stopped altogether. We should stop respecting people who have ill-gotten wealth. If society isolates people who have wealth got through illegal means, there is bound to be a perceptible change in our society,” said the lokayukta Justice N Santhosh Hegde.
Justice Hegde was speaking at the Alumni Re-union of Little Rock Indian School at Brahmavar, near here on Sunday December 17. The re-union was held in connection with the School’s Silver Jubilee Celebrations. He replied to questions from the audience and said that though there is lokayukta, people are reluctant to complain. Very few complaints reach the lokayukta, and every complaint that reaches it is investigated.
Unless written complaints with adequate information reach the lokayukta, there was no way to track down the corrupt. Citizens should have the courage to complain. The best bet for a corruption-free future society is good schools, which inculcate good values in their students.
He lauded Little Rock for running the school on ethical lines, without compromising on principles. He lauded the efforts of the management in creating an excellent school in a rural setting, giving the best possible education.
Principal Mathew C Ninan explained the distinct features of Little Rock, prominent among them being the student-friendly environment that is conducive to the learning and balanced growth of children. He maintained that the distinct ethos of Little Rock alone has been responsible for the outstanding performance of its students and the fine reputation it enjoys today. He pledged that Little Rock will continue to give the center-stage to its students and the focus will always be welfare of its students and staff.
Lorraine Dias, Dhiraj Bhandary, and Ashith Hegde spoke on behalf of the alumni. Neeta Kishore, headmistress of Dr NSAM English Medium School, Nitte who was a former teacher of Little Rock also spoke on the occasion.
Lali Abraham Mathew, vice-principal welcomed the gathering, while Mary Joseph, head teacher proposed the vote of thanks.
