Mangaluru: Passengers get self check-in facility at airport

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Jan 10: Self check-in kiosk has started functioning at the international airport here. The gesture of the airport in opening the kiosk is sure to particularly facilitate those who commute through the airport often, as they need not wait in long queues to get checked- in henceforth.

Director of the airport, J T Radhakrishna, inaugurated the facility on Friday January 9. This facility will be highly convenient for passengers who have only hand baggage.

As of now. Jet Airways is the only airlines to provide access to this facility to its passenger in the airport. Air India and other airlines are expected to follow suit soon.

The kiosk displays a list of logos of different airlines. The passenger has to touch the logo and enter PNR number of his ticket, besides keying in further details as he will be prompted to. Once he enters these details, he will get boarding pass. This facility is already available in all the major airports.

Be careful if Air India Express starts providing this service they will definitely charge extra on ticket fare & try to recover counter staff lost salary . If not passenger may have to buy boarding ticket empty slips from another by paying IRS 500 / slip & feed in to the machine because Air India Express is so called budget airline they can not afford anything even after paying double fare.

Even earlier one could check in on internet and print boarding pass at home. Those who move around frequently with only hand baggage will invariably have access to computers and printers.

Nothing more than online-checkin done in front of home/office computer being done in airport computer. I thought there would be baggage-checkin(weigh->scan->send on converyor belt) self-service!!!

Indeed a good move. This facility is made available in most countries and this is only a proof that we are not lagging behind.

Kudos to the people who have taken the initiative and to come up with this system.
