Mysuru: Woman sells kidney to pay bribe

Daijiworld Media Network - Mysuru (SP)

Mysuru, Jan 10: Incident that came into open with delay, a woman sold her kidney for meeting demand for money placed by government officials to set right her land records. The victim in this case is Chikkathayamma (55), wife of Doddaiah, from Kalisiddanahundi village in the taluk.

Chikkathayamma said that after the demise of her father, Chikkanamade Gowda, she had to set right land records of her father. In the process, the revenue officials demanded bribe, and she said, she was compelled to sell one of her kidneys at Bengaluru for Rs 80,000. She needed to shell out money heavily as her father had four acres of land that was inherited, and some more land that he had bought when alive.

Chikkathayamma said that the revenue officials had changed ownership records of the land bought by her father in someone else's name, and when she asserted her right on them, the revenue official demanded bribe at the rate of Rs 8,000 per acre. As she did not have enough money to pay, she said she went to Bengaluru and sold one kidney for Rs 80,000 in a private hospital.

She however refused to field question on where she sold her kidney, who acted as middleman, etc. She promised to reveal everything once the revenue records are set right.

If what the women states is true - these sharks and blood suckers should be booked and severely punished.

Hope the police will rise to the occasion and ensure that justice is rendered to the woman concerned and make the culprits an example to others.

Mr Gladson, from Brahmavar has said very correctly. Panchayath is a Kindergarten of Corruption. This is where they learn first stage on how to accept Bribe and Cheat. PDO means Pocket Digging Officer. He will dig a persons Pocket until empty. From here starts journey of Corruption towards State level and towards Delhi,His Corruption Track.
Check Panchayats in Karnataks and monitor some workers and you will find the Rogues. PAO, PDO and include elected members. Ordinary Clerk owns land through cheating Public. Many People got land through Free Handout from Government and there is term limit. But these Clerks use their Hidden Tactics to buy that Land by manipulating the land owner.

Expecting answers/response from State Government Employee's Union. Why are they salient? Are these union's do not have social responsibilities ? The employee union -either state / Centre Govt. should come out clear cut plan on to stop corruption and show their social responsibility.

Gladson what you say is true but for this to happen there definitely is a Godfather or maybe two or more. Dig deep enough and you will get them. Surely there is some one in the corridors of Vidhana Soudha whose blessings have been invoked.

It is time that we get India out of the "Corrupt Nation" space. IT is time that the protectionist policy for government officials should be reviewed and summary dismissal as done in the private sector (subject to following the principles of natural justice) should be followed. TheGovernment officials following "You scratch my back I scratch yours" has ensured the roots of corruption penetrating deep into the system. Every Government has ensured that the bureaucracy is protected despite corruption prevailing among them. The next is the Police department and the Judiciary which should be corruption free. Speedy disposal of Justice alone can ensure results on a "Corruption free Country". I wonder if the REvenue official who took the bribe has a Conscience at all!!!

Ramesh Babu, don't shoot in the air. This incident did not take place recently but some 3-4 years ago. It came to light following Lokayukta raid on the house of corrupt Revenue Inspector at Bogadi-Mysuru on December 20, 2014. This official had demanded a bribe of Rs 100000 from the lady and finally settled for Rs 80000. Following the raid, media went to unearth the background of the said official 'Koti Doddaiah' and came across this lady and her heart-wrenching story.

This is story of a corrupt govt official whose wealth is more than 100 crores. I came across this heart-wrenching news yesterday and saw the teary-eyed lady narrating her story. Incident took place some years ago. This brave woman has been fighting to have her father's land for the last 20 years. Revenue officials have taken bribe and yet not registered the land in the name of her mother after her father's death. The official accused in this is 'Doddaiah alias Koti Doddaiah' who joined govt service as village accountant and is currently the revenue inspector. Recently the Lokayukta police conducted raid on his luxury bungalow at Bogadi-Mysuru and were in shock to unearth his illegal wealth which is estimated to be more than 100 crores. He owns around 35 acres of ‘benami’ land his wife, son, cousin, niece's names near Srirangapatna, Mandya. Lokayukta police have already unearthed around 16 bank accounts, luxury cars, jewellery, etc from his house. He is also accused of engaging in real estate business despite being the govt servant. Just imaging a man who began his career has village accountant around 15 years ago, today has wealth more than 100 crores....apart from this lady, another woman too has accused that this govt official took a bribe of Rs 5 lac to convert her few acres of land and did not register the land. We often blame politicians for bribe. But I always believe that the govt officials must first be zeroed in. They are the actual root. They do not need blessings of any politician and demand bribe openly. They are emboldened because we are ready to pay them in order to get our work done without delays and hassles. Even for getting driving license we approach the middlemen because we do not want to contact RTO directly. Unless our attitude changes, bribing and bribery will continue. No law can stop this if our lethargic attitude continues.

I am not supporter of any party but why we have blame if some one is doing something wrong his birth place or in his constituency. The Government has to punish the culprits i.e. The rape and murder of a 17-year-old girl comes back to haunt the famous Dharmasthala temple complex in Karnataka, than we have to blame Dharmasthala temple or Hegde who is helping millions of people????

She herself has to be blamed as instead of complaining to Lokayukta she gave in to demand of officials. There may be something illegal in her records also , otherwise why she has to act like this?. There is no medicine for foolishness. Instead of showing sympathy she should be punished with officials as it is crime to give and receieve bribes.
