Muscat, Dec 19: Rains are rare visitors to the Sultanate of Oman. But the sparseness appears to be made up for when it rains once in a blue moon.
The topography of the easter coast of Oman is such that the mountains do not offer scope for the rain water to flow properly.
Extensive flood alleviation measures were taken in the early 1980's when Muscat city was given a total facelift with beaurification projects in preparation for the very first Arab Gulf Cooperation Council (AGCC) summit meeting was held for the first time in Oman.
Yet the rain fury seems to get the better of the safety measures. The result is here in these photographs.
