Kundapur: 18-year-old killed as bike hits footpath at Koteshwar

Kundapur, Jan 12: A youngster lost his life in an accident that occured at midnight of Sunday January 11 near Rachana bar in Koteshwar on national highway 66 here.

The deceased has been identified as Shamanth Kumar Devadiga (18) son of Sushila from Kannukere, Tekkatte.

The Discover bike which Devadiga was riding skidded on the road as it was reportedly at high speed and then it hit the footpath killing the rider instantly. The deceased lay 10 feet away from the bike.

The rider was travelling from Kundapur towards Tekkatte. He was turning towards a smaller road at Koteshwar when the tragic incident happened. Devadiga hit his head against the footpath which resulted in his death.

As it was a road where few vehicles move at night, the accident came to light after an hour of the incident.

Kundapur traffic police have registered the case.

    I value your concern and sense of gratitude towards our parents.

    During my youth days I used to borrow and ride Java bike (without LL) and was also saved many a times from major accidents, including my own fault or sitting on others bikes. The major encounter was in front of Milagres church,(1990) I had my daughter (7 years) and niece in the bike and was about to enter the side gate from adjacent road and an Ambassador car come on my way from nowhere. I applied brakes so hard that my by skidded and it was taking rounds on the road but did not hit the car or allowed car to hit us. It is for sure what I am today, only because of my mother’s prayers. That respect shall never fade from my heart.

    Most accident are happening in pulsar brand bike,
    normally i have seen these pulsar riders go rash ride and loose control than other bikes.

    These bikes are very dangerous and costed many lifes either by own fault or driven by others with high Speed hitting pedastrians and their death.At 18,a bike?parents must also sometimes see that they dont drive reckless and not without helm.Afterall whenthey love their children ,see they earn their own Money and they will be bit careful about their own .Of course parents are always fear about their children flying with bikes.In Mangalore streets are so narrow and too many vehicles ,driving without rules and regulations,that causes accidents.Heartfelt sympathys to the Family.May his Soul rest in peace.

    Wearing a helmet would have saved his life.
    My sincere request to traffic department is to make helmet compulsory and place a hefty fine if bikers are riding without helmets.
    At least some life’s will be saved and avoid fatal accidents.
    People please use helmet while you ride 2 wheeler and tell others to use it promptly.

    Actually every bike should come with 2 free helmets from the company itself. Government should make it compulsory for all the bike dealers. Either you charge it or give it free.

    What a comment from a matured person like you. Accident, death, encounters are inevitable. Our life is not always guaranteed or safe even if we drive four wheeler, or in the air. But we cannot live or lead life with fear. When ones time approaches no one can stop our destiny. In most of the accidents, the speed is the culprit.

    Flavian, I am talking from experience. I am the only child and my parents did not allow me to ride even a simple cycle. I have seen many of my college friends die on the roads. Today my parents are no more and I thank them for what I am today ...

    Special sessions should b held by the office of R.T.O. before issuing driving licenses to young people and more specially driving licenses for motor cycles and scooters. That apart refresher courses should be hold for youngsters from time to time.

    When traffic offenses are committed by people they should asked to attend special driving lessons at the expense of the offenders. This is the way they function in U.,S.A. and other advances countries.
