Mangalore, Dec 21: 'Janapada Siri', the colourful procession marking the inuaugration of the month-long Karavali Utsav was flagged off on December 21 evening.
The spectacular procession which depicts the rich culture, heritage and art forms of the coastal region was flagged off from Nehru Maiden by Health minister R Ashok.
Leading the procession was the Kannada Bhuvaneshwari tableau followed by the tableaux of Queen Chennamma, Queen Abbakadevi, Agricluture Fisheries, Forest, Horticulture, Women and Child Welfare department, Mangalore City Corporation, KSRTC, KMF, SKDRDP and District Pollution Control Board.
Vintage cars also added beauty to the procession.
A total of 15 dance troupes including the Kombu, Chende, Yakshagana, Duff and other coastal dance forms like Hulivesha (tiger dance), Karadi Kunita, Chennu, Gumatta and Gombe Kunita (Doll Dance) participated in the procession.
Adding beauty to this were ten dance troupes from outside the state which took part in the procession. The teams included Pooja Kunita, Dollu Kunita, Somana Kunita, Veerabhadra Kunita, Nandi Dwaja Kunita, Suggi Kunitha, Karaga Kunita, Veeraghasye and Chitti Mela.
Scout, guides and the NCC along with the local temple band troupes were also a part of the grand procession which travelled for 3 hours passing through the major streets of the city to the Utsav Ground.
