Udupi: Scores of students converge for Divo career enhancing seminar

Udupi, Jan 13: Divo Konkani weekly, published from Mumbai, held its annual career enhancing youth seminar under the aegis of YCS Shankarpura at St John School hall, Pangla in Shankarpura here on Sunday, January 11.

Bishop of Udupi diocese Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo who presided over the programme lighted the traditional lamp and inaugurated the seminar. Vinay Kumar Sorake, minister for urban development and Udupi district incharge minister and MLC Ivan D' Souza were present.

Bishop Dr Gerald Lobo in his address said that the youth of today are the citizens of tomorrow. "If you take advantage of your student life and get well educated, your life will be prosperous. You should give up lethargy and carelessness and strengthen the society. You should write the foreword for the progress and prosperity of the society without forgetting your parents and teachers who taught you," he said.

Minister Sorake and MLC Ivan D' Souza speaking on the occasion said that youth power is the foundation for building a strong nation. They added that the future of the country is in the hands of youth and wished the students a bright future.

Dramatist Francis Fernandes Cascia, Cyprian Albuquerque, John G Mendonca, Mark Vas, Simi D'Souza, Juliet D' Souza, Dr Thomas J Quadros, Sr Mariolla and other dignitaries were present. Executive president of Model Bank Mumbai and St John Engineering Group of
Colleges Albert W D'Souza conducted a workshop and gave information on opportunities in engineering, pharmacy, technology, management, trade, commerce and employment and inspired the youth.

Kallianpur Milagres College head, Prof Dr Gerald Pinto spoke on how to make use of opportunities to get top posts. Samanvaya, Mangaluru director Fr Dr Ronald Cutinho explained how one can identify one's talents, give them a shape and use them in one's life.

Glowinstaar Integrated School principal Dr Thomas J Quadros gave a talk on making the right career choices and personality development. Retired professor Hilda Rodrigues, Kallianpur spoke on the importance of family and family values. In the concluding programme, Udupi diocese vicar general Fr Baptist Menezes wished bright future to the youth.

Udupi diocese ICYM head Fr Edwin D' Souza offered thanksgiving mass in between the programme.

Secular Citizen Weekly editor Sujan Coelho, camp organizers Dr Edward Lobo, Joseph Noronha, John Lobo and others were present. The programme started with a welcome dance by YCS members of Shankerpura. Divo weekly editor Lawrence Coelho welcomed. St John Church Pangla parish priest Fr Dr Leslie C D' Souza expressed his opinion on the camp. Oliver D'Sa and Joyce Martis compered the programme. St John Pre-University College principal Fr Vincent Coelho proposed the vote of thanks.
