Kundapur, Jan 14: The police have arrested six persons in connection to the clashes that broke out in Kodi on Sunday January 11 night. The arrests were made not only for the clashes but also in connection to the assualt of an innocent youth.

Four persons, whose names have been given as Zakir, Sadvik, Arshad and Abdul Rahiman have been arrested relating to the flare up at Kodi.

As a result of the clashes, two persons were admitted into Chinmayee Hospital in the town, after which some youth, in a fit of rage, had launched a murderous assault on an innocent youth of another community. Relating to this incident, the police have arrested two, identified as Ranjan and Rakesh.

All of them were produced in the court after medical check up, it is learnt.

After two groups of youth belonging to different communities fought a pitched battle near the old estuary in Kodi on Sunday night, Bharat (17) and Ranjit (22) from Halavalli were admitted to a private hospital here with serious injuries. A large number of youngsters had gathered in front of the hospital then. When a person named Muhammed Awaiz (17), who had visited the hospital to buy medicines, was seen going back, some youth in the group asked for his name, it is said. Once they learnt that he was from another community, the youths beat him up, after which he was hospitalized. A case relating to this incident was registered in the police station here.

Acting swiftly under the directions of the district superintendent of police, Annamalai, and newly posted deputy superintendent of police here, Manjunath Shetty, police circle inspector, Diwakar P M, and sub-inspector, Nassir Hussain, made these arrests and arranged for tight vigil to ensure that disturbances do not spill over to new areas. The police have been hunting for some more accused.

To maintain round-the-clock watch over the situation, three check posts have been set up by the police - one at Halavalli, the other at Ramanagara, with an outpost at M Kodi. Each of these check posts are manned by two policemen, while the outpost has an additional staff in the form of an assistant police sub-inspector.

Here I agree with you, But you should demand the arrest of the culprits who assaulted the person who went to purchase medicine. All the persons responsible for the trouble at Kodi should be behind the bars for at least 5 years.. Also help the Police to arrest absconding Tagodia who is supposed to attend a function in DK district.

This is all a result of over- population, over-breeding,and unemployment. The least the government and or local representatives can do is hold employment rallies, tie up with overseas employment bureaus and send these youth to Middle east for employment. There they will become highly disciplined, remit foreign currency and return as good citizens improving the living of themselves and family.

Mr. Hegde - I totally agree with you. The root cause of communal conflicts and street violence is unemployment and over population.

A lot of jobless youth are deliberately misled on the path of political street violence and are made foot soldiers in exchange for some few thousand rupees, 1 mobile and petrol for their bikes.

The need of the hour is for our government (State and Central) to generate employment for teh corores of youth who are passing out each year.

If this issue is not addressed now then we might have dime-a-dozen senas, fronts and self styled armed groups all over the country.

Hedge Sir. A very intelligent comment indeed. But the time when jobs were easily available in the middle east for Indians has long passed. Most gulf nations are already seeking to reduce their population of Indian nationals and give jobs to the local youth. Add to this there is increasing completion from other Arab, South Asian countries like Pak, Philippines etc to capture the job market. Given such a scenario obtaining a job in the middle east for Indians is a very difficult task.

I will agree with you if our Police arrests the GOONDA, who slapped the police officer and when they arrest the cattle thieves and brokers.
