Udupi, Jan 15: Following the death of a 9-year-old school boy at Kota some days ago, miscreants late night on Wednesday January 14 set fire to the house of the accused boy's uncle.
Sughosh Adiga (9), who as studying in 4th standard, had gone missing last Saturday, and on Monday January 12 it came to light that he was killed after a fight broke out between him and his neighbour, a 15-year-old boy. The minor boy was taken into custody, and as per his statement, he had thrown Sughosh's body into a nearby well.
When the matter had come to light on Monday, some of the enraged locals had pelted stones at the house of the accused boy's uncle Kalyan Kumar at Kota.
On Wednesday night, unidentified miscreants set fire to Kalyan Kumar's house and caused heavy damage. Kalyan was alone at home at the time of the incident, it is learnt.
Speaking to reporters, Kalyan said that a group of people came to his house and set it on fire. As it was dark, he could not recognize them, he said.
The roof, front door, windows, cow shed, stock of coconuts and some items in the store room of the house were charred.
DySP of Udupi Chandrashekar, circle inspector Arun Naik, SI K R Naik and other police personnel visited the spot.
A case has been registered in Kota police station.
