Mangaluru, Jan 16: Fire broke out at Wenlock hospital here shortly before the arrival of health minister U T Khadar and medical education minister Dr Sharan Prakash Patil.

The fire broke out in the CT scan room reportedly due to short circuit in the air-conditioner wiring.

The hospital's safety officers swung into action and soon extinguished the fire. Thick smoke engulfed the CT scan room. A fire engine was also pressed into action.

Luckily, the fire did not spread to the CT scanner or other equipment. Except for the AC which was charred, no major damage or injuries was reported.

About 15 minutes after the fire incident, Khadar and Dr Patil arrived at the hospital and held discussions with the staff, superintendent and interacted with patients. Khadar also inspected the CT scan room and gathered information about the fire incident.

Speaking to reporters, Khadar said the cause for the fire was short circuit and that he has asked the officials to repair it at the earliest.

On the launch Bharatiya Hindu Parishat (BHP) by Puttur block Congress president, Khadar said, "BHP has not been formed by the Congress. If someone individually has launched the outfit, then its intention will be looked upon. Organizations that do good work are welcome. Any religion or community can have its own organization, there is no harm in it, as long as everyone lives in peace and harmony.

Minister should not occupy Medical Superintendent's chair. Minister is a Public servant. On the contrary he treats everyone as his servants.

On the photography I see several Nurses with saree uniforms.Saree On nursing duty/patient care on maters of infection control is not advisable.I am not against saree. Its good if you do utive ,sedentary level of job. As a nurse you are all the time walking around it hinders with the speed and especially if you have to act in the emergency situation.your dress code turns out to be your enemy. In my opinion nurses should not use saree uniform.

The thorough investigations may be initiated in the matter with regard to substandard electrical fittings and materials used to safe guard the hospital from further such incidents.

This is what happens if you get
a 21st century air conditioner fitted with 15th century electrical wires and plug them into a 14th century socket...
Window dressings always 'back-fire' like this...
