Mangaluru: Newborn girl found dead in well at Kalpana road

Mangaluru, Jan 18: In a heart-rending incident, a newborn girl baby was found dead in a well at Kalpana road near Bendorewell here on Sunday January 18.

The well is located in the property belonging to Kasturi Aithal, an elderly lady.

It is said that the house is by Kasturi and her husband. Their daughter stays in another place. The well is used only by a woman staying in a house opposite to Kasturi's.

Kasturi's neighbour who often draws water from this well reportedly told her two days ago that there was foul smell emanating from the well. On Saturday January 17, the stench got stronger, and on Sunday morning, on examining, the baby's body was found floating in the well.

The police were informed and the baby's body was retrieved from the well.

There is no information yet on how the baby came to be thrown into the well or who her parents are.

The body was sent to Wenlock hospital for post-mortem.

Kadri police have registered a case and further investigations are on.

    I feel so sorry when I hear such cases.what that Baby done?a innocent Soul who deserved to be Born to other mother who has love than this mother.She carried for nine months and at last to throw in a well,that too in a drinking well.when that child could speak,what it would tell to her ?The question was why?She could have given to orphan or someone who desperately want to adapt child. she could so atleast see her child grow up and have a normal life.did the Baby died before they throw it in well?many question and no answer.Hope they will catch the Person soon and let her also dump in the well .So she will realize how it is.

    O mother how can you escape from the eyes of god which are 10,000 more powerful than of Sun.Even if you wanted to get rid of this child you should have put her on the doorstep of a mercy home without being noticed. Whatever may be your compulsions you are guilty of murder.

    The Blessed Pope has asked to involve women more in everyday life and not to shove them to the back, Here this child, which had no voice, no strength has died. It has happened due to what, No one knows... God forgive the perpetrators

    First make sure whether an already dead / stillborn child was retrieved from the well. A proper autopsy can reveal this.Water in lungs (emphysema aquosum) is suggestive of real drowning !

    The mother of the new-born unwanted child should have kept the baby in a safe place like a temple/Church/Mosque so that someone would have come forward to adopt that child.
    Its a crime to kill such an innocent child.

    Exactly at the left side of this news is a message one of prominent religious leaders to give importance to women. I sank in my seat reading this news, about a new born baby thrown into a well. What wrong did the child do to end up like this ?

    In which age we Indians are ? How long will it be by when we will respect human life in general - let alone by gender ?
