Mangaluru, Jan 19: The seventh Lancy Nite which was held on Sunday, January 18 at St Agnes Special School open grounds, Bendore was a huge success by all means. 'Sangeeth Ras' Lancy and his troupe simply sent the crowd into a different world altogether.

Before the musical nite started, there was a stage programme. Fr Joachim Fernandes, the parish priest of St Ann's church, Kelrai was the president of the function. Elias Sanctis, Joseph Mathias, Eric Ozario, Luvi J Pinto and Alwyn Pinto were the chief guests.

Eric Ozario during his address called upon Konkani music lovers to encourage all types of musicians. “Unfortunately, there are some attempts to discourage musicians who do not belong to a particular genre. We have seen some persons attaining popularity in the past. Nobody should think only their type of music is only suitable in Konkani or great for that matter. What we want is, every person should get opportunity to present himself or herself. Let all of them perform. Please do not say which is right and which is wrong. Let the music world decide who is good. Good will remain and bad will go. Let us not put conditions on the performers. If you want to honour any greats for their talents, let us join hands together. But in order to do that, let us please not discourage the genres of music of newcomers if it does not belong to the previous ones.”

While the Konkani music is marching forwards without any help from academy, government or any institutions, only the music lovers in the form of sponsors and spectators support the musicians. If strictly followed, the call by Ozario will definitely have an impact in the growth of Konkani music in the future.

Clifford Rodrigues introduced Lancy Noronha. He narrated Lancy’s musical journey from childhood to the present stage.

Elias Sanctis in his brief address told about Mohammed Rafi’s foray into the music by chance. He said every musical nite is an opportunity for newcomers.

Fr Joachim Fernandes during his presidential address said that only honesty , integrity and commitment to execute one’s convictions will make people great in their fields. He said this was the success mantra of Usha Uthup the renowned singer.

The music nite started with the opening song by Preema D’Souza. Lancy Noronha, Anita D’Souza, Joseph Mathias, Dr Prashanth, Goldin Bendur, Preema D'Souza, Joshel D'Souza, Cresilla Rodrigues, Melric Monteiro rendered their melodious voices during the show.

Ravindra Prabhu was the hero of nite with his song ‘Suzanna’. It was a different type of song in the Konkani music world. The involvement of the crowd during the performance of this song and the unstoppable applauses after the song were testimony to the popularity of this song. Dr Prashanth Raj and Joshel D’Souza rendered a Kannada song which potrayed the beauty of the nature which obviously a reference to a place in and around picturesque Bellore the birth place of the lyricist.

Vijay Noronha, the younger brother of Lancy Noronha rendered the music.

'Me-Mo-Ri' (Mellu, Moras and Richie) and team sent the crowd into laughter with their skits. A skit with the theme ‘Cricket betting’ was a huge hit. When it comes to innovation in Konkani comedy skits, this particular may become a trendsetter as it had the content, timing and fantastic performances, not to forget the music. Nellu Permanur provided music for the skits.

Revival Dancers entertained with their dance show.

Roshan D’Silva from Vamanjoor compered the music nite. Fiona Bennis thanked all the people who made this nite possible.

The nite was organized by Alfred Bennis Creations and Hope Charitable Trust Mangaluru. The event was held to help the education of needy children. This was the 18th show for the main architect of the show, Alfred Bennis.
