Mangaluru: New Air Traffic Control tower begins functioning at airport

Mangaluru, Jan 20: The new Air Traffic Control (ATC) tower that has been installed at the international airport here began functioning on Monday January 19. This tower will be functional all the 24 hours of the day. This fully air-conditioned tower with a height of 25 metres is equipped with lift facility.

It is learnt that Airports Authority of India will shift all the communication and air traffic control equipment from the old building to the new technical building adjacent to the new tower by the end of May this year.

Director of the local airport, J T Radhakrishna, said that the meteorological department will also be constructing a new technical building here, which will supplement easier handling of air traffic at the international airport here.

    Please increase the runway length,Fist from a safety point of view. Its difficult always to hit right landing place to stop exactly end of runway. Secondly.. we may get a chance to board A330,A350, B 777, B787 B 767 beside narrow body B 737 & A 320 & get connected to larger part of the world!

    Hope ATC will appoint well trained staff round the clock to control.There is more lack of arrangements from Airport Authority and subject to situation disclosed to the public.

    I hearing this news from july 2014... Saying they will shift all the equipments & systems within next month.. Next month... But no signs move yet...
    As per Internal news... There are many problems in the new building.. Like leakage , road transport...

    Realistically speaking nothin can be done to increase the length of the runway because there is no place the build the runway on. the only option is to extend it in a similar way of madeira runway.
