Bengaluru, Jan 20: Karnataka home minister, K J George, announced that Student Police Forces (SPF) will be set up at various places within the state shortly. He was speaking after inaugurating a scheme of adoption of government schools and function for disbursal of annual student scholarships, organized at Indian Academy College here on Monday January 19.

'An ambitious concept of 'Student Police' will be implemented in the city and elsewhere in the state beginning next month. Under this scheme, students will be educated about the functioning of police department, and awareness will be created among them about the relationship students and police share with each other,' he said. He added that he was optimistic that this scheme will help to considerably reduce the cases like rape and atrocities on students.

He expressed happiness at the fact that private educational institutions are coming forward to adopt government schools. He urged donors to lay emphasis on education sector. He wanted philanthropists to be more generous towards education sector, for helping everyone including poorest of the poor to get education.

Head of Indian Academy College, Somashekhar, said that in the initial stage, five schools of Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike are being adopted by his institution. He promised to undertake more development works in the coming days.

MLAs, B A Basavaraj and Muniratna, college secretary, Bharati, K R Puram block Congress president, Narayanaswamy, youth Congress president, Srikanth, and others were present.
