Mangaluru, Jan 20: The police have nabbed two persons in connection to the brutal murder of a married woman that took place on the night of January 12 at Meenkaliya, Panambur.

Addressing a press meet here on Tuesday January 20, DCP (crime) Vishnuvardhan said that the arrested are Ajju alias Ajju Pradhan (23) and Vrindavan Pradhan (38), both hailing from Ganjam, Odisha and presently residing at Meenakaliya.

They were caught at Suratkal railway station on the evening of Monday January 19, the DCP said.

Kalpana (25) from Madhya Pradesh was hacked to death when her husband Rajesh and another relative were at work on the night of January 12. The DCP said that the accused forcibly barged into the room and attempted to rape Kalpana, and when she resisted, they assaulted her with a sickle and pounded her with pieces of iron pipes and stones. A case was registered in Panambur police station. Although it was initially said that Kalpana was from Uttar Pradesh, it was later found that she was from Madhya Pradesh.

Initially there was no clue about the culprits, but during investigation, the police found that two persons, who were residing in a room in the building occupied by workers from Bihar, Assam, Jharkhand, Kolkata and Odisha, had gone absconding. A police team was formed led by Panambur ASI, and under the guidance of the police commissioner and the DCPs, and assistance from scientific experts, the accused were nabbed from Suratkal railway station, the DCP said.

The weapons used by the accused were recovered from the crime spot, he said.

The DCP further said that all construction contractors in the city have been asked to submit complete details about the migrant labourers working under them.

It is good and encouraging to observe that we have a very efficient Police Force in Mangalore under the guidance and direction of The present Commissioner of Police Mr. Murugan, I.P.S., who has recently taken over from Mr. Hitendra, I.P.S. Mr. Vishnu Vardhan of course is very much in the news with regard to his efficient handling of criminal cases.

People feel safe to a considerable extent with good people to guide and protect them.

I have had occasions of meeting the senior officers of the Police Force and indeed they are doing an effective job.

Kudos to Mr. Vishnu Vardhan and his team for the wonderful work done.
