Puttur, Dec 27: It was a fateful day in Rajasthan for the Rai family of Kormanda-Bettampady of Puttur.

The Rai couple who were travelling with their two sons met with a road accident which claimed their lives on Tuesday night.

In a head-on collision between a truck and Tata Sumo residents of Battampady here Niranjan Rai (50) son of D Padmanabha Rai and his wife Tara (45), children Jeetan (35) and Nitin (16) died. Two others of Puttur origin are said to have survived with injuries. Their names are not immediately known.

While the couple died on the spot, the sons, who were seriously injured died in the hospital. The accident took place in Toka, near Jaipur on Tuesday night.

Niranjan Rai was employed in Rajasthan over the past 25 years and is said to have chosen a Rajasthani as his wife. They had visited home on a three-month holiday. The family was on a trip to places of tourist interest in Rajasthan.

Niranjan is survived by his mother Sushila and brother Dayananda Rai. On receiving the news, they are said to have rushed to Rajasthan.
