Mangaluru, Jan 22: Daiji Dubai, a forum of Konkani Writers in the UAE, will celebrate its 16th anniversary with magnificence and splendour on Sunday January 25 at 10 am at St Aloysius High School Auditorium, Mangaluru.
If one looks at history, Daiji Dubai has always held its annual celebrations in Dubai. However the long established practice was broken as it rejoiced its 14th and 15th anniversaries at Udupi and Mumbai respectively. Now it is on the threshold of tryst with destiny by reaching Konkani writers' fraternity in Mangaluru.
‘Daiji Anniversary’ which always has been a high-profile and professionally managed entertainment programme is considered one of the prestigious Konkani events and is patronized by a large audience every year. During the event, the prestigious ‘Daiji Puroskar’ which is traditionally awarded to a Konkani literature personality, will be conferred on Konkani writer Manu Bahrain,who will be the 16th to receive this honour. A sparkling addition would be the Late MickMax Memorial Award for the best playwright and this will be bestowed on well-known Eddie Sequeira. The late Percy Urwa’s book ‘PeperePepe Dum’ would be unveiled during this memorable event.
The 16th anniversary is going to be bigger and better than ever. The fantastic celebration includes a family get-together of Konkani writers, budding and established, under one roof. It is a time for Konkani writers and their families to assemble and connect the emotional chords by spending a day of fun and frolic with the community they belong. The merriment includes enriching talk by Fr Denis D'Sa in the presence of Roy Castelino, Basti Vaman Shenoy, Leo Rodrigues and other eminent personalities. Rib-tickling stand-up comedy ‘Don Ghadi Hason Kaadi’ would be unleashed by seasoned artistes Dolla, C G S Taccode, Eddie Sequeira, Titus Noronha, Walter Nandalike, Dayan D’Souza and Sunita Menezes. Electrifying ‘Nach Sobhan’ from Mangaluru will entertain with non-stop dance numbers. Entry is free for all. Lunch will be served.
