Aadhaar card applicants in Udupi facing harrowing time

Udupi, Jan 22: "Applying for Aadhaar card has become a cumbersome and difficult task in Udupi. The outrage by people who are trying to apply for an Aadhaar card has reached its limit," said social worker Vishu Kumar Shetty, Ambalpady.

Addressing a press meet here to highlight problems relating to Aadhaar card, he said, "People leave from their homes at midnight and come to Gandhi Bhavan in Udupi to stand in the queue. There are many women, young girls, elderly persons and sick people among them. A woman came at 1 am after taking a lift in a lorry with her neighbour. She even wept as she had a horrible time.

"Is it fair to make people come from Harikhandige, Nandikoor, Padubidri, Kodi Kanyana, Atradi, Hebri, Uppooru and other distant places at night? Those who do not have their own vehicles come by hired vehicles. It is not safe for women to come from distant places at night. They also come by bikes. However the officials have ignored their plight," he said.

Giving examples of how people have suffered because of issues related to Aadhaar card, he said, "Havanje resident Jayalaxmi said that she came by auto rickshaw at 4 am and still she did not get the token. Nearly 200 people have returned after being unable to obtain tokens. The common people are faced with several of such problems. There is no toilet facility for people who come at night.

"A person came from Nandikoor along with his aged father and a three-year-old child for the fourth time. He lamented that he had to come after locking his house. He was anxious that his house would be broken into by thieves," he added.

"Amba Shenoy, an elderly woman came at 4 am with great difficulty. She said that it was not enough if the officials get up at 8 am. While some of the applicants are annoyed, some are in tears and others cursing the officials," Vishu Kumar Shetty said.

Shetty also hinted at possible corruption in the system and said that one Ravindra Pai said that officials at the Aadhaar application centre give tokens if they are paid Rs 500. "This has to be investigated," Shetty urged.

Social workers Ashok Neeravar, Raghu Ambalpady and Praveen Shetty were present at the press meet.

    Less than a year back politicians were talking about scrapping it. What aadhara will this Aadhar card give by undergoing so many hurdles? Aren’t PAN Card and Voter’s ID card enough for one’s identity? Where are we heading?

    It's a nightmare to get a Aadhaar Card in Mangalore. Where is Naveen Kateel. Busy cutting ribbons elsewehere. He should see the plight of poor citizens of Udupi and Mangalore and make necessary arrangements to issue Aadhaar card 8-5 and not limit to 80 people. What a nonsense. We all say India is moving towards 21st Century, wereas in reality we are still In 1970's. This is not the situation in other states. A place like Mumbai Aaadaar card applications are accepted from 8-5. Is Karnataka so bad In administering citizens rights? And we still vote for some insane ministers. What a pity.

    Ok I want to bring something on notice to all Daji followers. I had been to our so called MCC Lal-bug to enquire about (un)Aadhaar card. I asked one individual where to get Aadhaar done, he said next building, and the same individual tells me that it is impossible for you to get an Aadhaar card. I asked him why? He directed me to a watchman. The watchman in turn tells me to pay him Rs400, Why? He said he will arrange 2 people who will wait for me in the queue and when I come at around 9:30am they will allow me in their place, I ignored him. I went to the next building asking for the form, the lady cop told me to get it from Xerox shop, ain't Aadhaar form free? One more thing I observed is around this Aadhaar office and saw only brokers or should I say form fillers. I want to see how Aadhaar card affect my life for not having it.

    I some how did it, with lot of difficulty and got my adhar card done. Stood in que from 7 am Lucky to get the token I feel the government must make more easy making of aadhar card. Its a right of people not a favour by the government I hope the problems solve

    Feku Ananth Kumar said they will scrap Adhar card if BJP voted for power!! Is it valid still??? Or BJP lost its mind on the promise??? Believe they could not come out with better!~! All Karnataka BJP MP are sleeping after winning on Modi wave!! DK MP's are the worst affected with this grave sleep!!

    In most of the cities this job is outsourced to some private agencies.They do a better job and people are also happy.Why these govt officials are harassing senior citizens.What the politicians are doing there.With what face they go and beg vote from these people.Udupi is a growing city.Drastic change is required at all levels and it is possible if people unite and fight and take up the issue with the District incharge and politicians.

    What the local politicians are doing there.Write Letter to PM Modi signed by all those waiting in que.Cleaning should start from the grass root level.Then only we can think of 'Swatcha Bharat'. A copy of the letter should be given to the district incharge,Chief Minister,Local Politicians.See how things will change.

    Well it is genuine issue highlighted by social worker Vishu Kumar Shetty, Ambalpady.If Aadhar card is genuinely required,concerned department/officials should be honest and disciplined and try to open as many as counters,which is close to residents of that area without troubling the people particularly old people,children and women even gents.Coming as early as in the morning and standing in que and finally return empty handed without getting even a token is really embarrassing and painful.Definitely one will curse the officials.Besides taking bride for alloting token from the people is another disease,which should be investigated and curbed once for all from the root itself.Such officials who are trying to exploite the innocents should be punished and removed from the service.I vehemently vouch for Whatever the points highlighted by social worker Shetty.There should be limit for each and everything.Instead of helping the people,concerned officials are trying to take the advantage of the poor innocent people and exploit them,which is inhumane.Government should act and interfere immediately in this case and make an alternative arrangements for the easy issuance of so called Aadhar card.There should not be cumbersome or embarrassment anymore,if at all Aadhar card is genuinely required.Otherwise abolish this programme of issuing Aadhar card.People shold not be taken for ride and troubled.Really people who coming from long distance take lot of troubles to reaching Aadhar card issuing centre and undergo lot of mental torture,ordeals.Please stop it.Do justice.Don't fool the people in the name Aadhar card.

    Instead of waiting in queque for 5-6 hours in Udupi at Adhaar Card Centre, please come to Mangalore Centre near Ballalbagh (besides Corpn Office) and apply here. Aadhaar Card application of any place /any district can be accepted in any other district Centres also. It is not necessary that Udupi district people should apply only in Udupi, they can apply in Mangalore too as all centres are connected through one main Server.
    After seeing the mess in Udupi centre, my brother residing in Parkala near Manipal came to Mangalore three months back with his family and applied for Aadhar Card and he even received the original Card by Speed post last week in his Parkala address.

    I had gone and tried to apply for so called aadhar card several times in Lalbaugh Mangalore. every time I try to apply some or other issue will be there in the enrollment centers. As some one rightly said we have to stand in line from early morning 4 or 5 am. then if I am falling in first eighty I may get enrolled on that particular day. Why Indian citizens are made suffer to stand in lines? Why can't government come door to door step and complete the activity ? I feel since it is free of cost no politicians are interested in bringing AADHAR towards citizens, disgusting!!

    I DID MY AADHAR CARD IN LALBHAG OFFICE YEAR BACK. I WENT AFTERNOON 2.30 AND CAME OUT WITHIN ONE HOUR.

    YES THERE ARE MANY PROBLEMS DUE TO ADMINISTRATION. NO SIGN BOARD NO NOTICE BOARD OR NO ONE GIVING YOU CLEAR INFORMATION. ITS LIKE KICHDI BUT YOU NEED TO MAKE SOME CIRCUS TO GET YOUR JOB DONE!
