Dubai resident dies after falling from Tecom high-rise

Dubai, Jan 22 (Emirates 247) : A man was found dead in Dubai’s Tecom area after falling from his 25th floor apartment on Wednesday afternoon.

Initial reports suggest that he committed suicide although it could not be confirmed with the police.

According to the building’s management, the deceased was a 40-year-old Jordanian man living alone in a 2-bedroom apartment in Al Shaiba Tower-B in Tecom, working for a Tecom-based company.

The incident happened at around 3.40pm on Wednesday.

“I suddenly heard a loud bang. When I looked outside, I saw a body lying on the ground,” said Kashif, who works in one of the restaurants in the neighbourhood.

“When I approached the body I realised he was most probably dead. He was not moving at all. As I could not do anything to help, I called the police,” he said.

Another resident in the neighbourhood saw the incident as she was walking her dogs in the street where the body landed. “I did not see the body coming, but I suddenly saw the body land on the ground next to me. I was shocked and ran away,” she said.

According to both eye witnesses, there was no sound other than that of the landing. “I did not hear the man shout or scream for help. That’s why I suspect it was not an accident. But this has not been confirmed,” said Kashif.

The deceased was believed to be a wealthy person, although nobody really seems to know him. “I know that he did not live with anybody else and works in the area, but I do not know what his job was,” said the watchmen on duty when it happened.

“The police took Dh8000 and the keys of a Porsche car from his pocket,” said Kashif, who knew the deceased as a customer. “He seemed to be a businessman.”

A hole in the grass where the man fell will remind residents of the tragic incident. Kashif covered the spot with a plastic bag, as it is next to the main street.

“It is not a pleasant sight and there are many children in this area. It can be very upsetting,” he said.
