Udupi, Jan 23: Udupi-Chikkamagaluru MP Shobha Karandlaje on Friday January 23 said that the persons who sparked trouble in Gangolli by setting fire to a shop were not locals but probably from Bhatkal.

Addressing a press meet at BJP officer near Kadiyali here, Karandlaje said, "The culprits were daring. They might be experts in such terror activities. They used 45 litres of petrol for this act (of setting fire to shop). They were not locals but must be from Bhatkal.

"The act was well-planned. The police have got the registeration number of the car used in the crime, and this car does not belong to Udupi district," she added.

Shobha alleged that Gangolli is becoming a target of terror activities as it is known to be a communally sensitive area.

"Political pressure is also there behind such acts. There is a need to take stern action against the culprits," she added.

Kasturirangan report

Referring to the Kasturirangan report, she said that the state government has appointed two sub-committees under the leadership of higher education minister R V Deshpande and environment minister Ramanath Rai. "The Supreme Court has said that meetings should be held in every village to collect public opinion. The cultural and natural landscapes report has to be submitted April 15 this year," she said.

Aadhaar card

Shobha Karandlaje said that out of 11.75 lac Aadhaar cards in Udupi district, 9 lac have been approved, and the remaining 2.75 lac will be ready soon.

She also alleged that the state government has created confusion about the card and urged it to find a permanent solution for issues related to Aadhaar. "People who do not have Aadhaar card need not to worry, because it is not compulsory at all," she said.

Slow pace of NH work

When asked about the delay in functioning of NH 66, she said that Navayug company that has the contract is facing shortage of funds. She also said that she met union minister for road transport Nitin Gadkari regarding this and urged him to complete the construction work soon.

Now we have many injured goons admitted in the hospital... If any one enquires, how these goons are injured, where they were injured, ALL THE TRUTH will be known. What was the necessity for these goons to enter some ones house and compound.. They started to ransack the house and beat the inmates. The neighbours gathered in large numbers and beat them red and blue.... Now there are 31 goons in Bellary jail involved in this fighting...Every one is crying our people are innocent. SP has clearly told the public, if you feel any one is innocent, give his name and I will make the enquiry.. Now no goons from Surathkal, Kolluru, from Dubai and other places are talking in support of the innocents, All are in rat holes.. Mr SP, you have done a good job, by driving away all the public from the roads. let it continue for another ONE MONTH... Let the Gangolly people feel the heat, let them solve their problems, without involving outside goons... Shoot at sight is the best solution to such rowdies. Even last time when the NH was blocked for 3 hours, there should have been firing on the unruly mobs...That is the only solution, as to how the Bhatkal goons were taught a lesson..

Shobhakka says Gangolli has become a "hub of terror activities". Let's also make a list of "preplanned terror activities" that she missed:

1- There was a mosque complex that was set on fire

2- When the culprits (from Shobhakka's 'Parivar') were arrested, a mob led by her partymen ensured they went free

3- After those who set the mosque on fire were set free, incendiary speeches were made by members of her parivar abusing and openly threatening the minority community. No action was taken as usual

3- Muslim women were assaulted in their houses a few days back, and are recuperating in hospital. As usual,nobody was caught.

How is it that Mr. Shenoy's shop on fire is an act of terror, but these acts are not, Shobakka?
Will Shobhakka tell us who 'planned' these terror activities too? I'm sure she can recognise her friends?

In gangoli , we are reading in the news since one month there was fire gutted masjid complex then some hindu owned shop. Being elected MP representing this region you are giving some opinion while police is on job to find out the culprit. Your one sided opinion in the press conference is unjustifiable. Instead while visiting the disturbed area you should have arranged a peace meeting with both the communities by taking the help of police and attempted to solve the issue.
