Karkala: Suspected human trafficking in Belman - Man arrested

Daijiworld Media Network - Karkala (RJP)

Karkala, Jan 24: Police have arrested a man on suspicion of human trafficking in Belman.

The arrested is Anni Fernandes from Nandalike near Belman. A girl from Jharkhand who was with him has been taken into custody for questioning.

The public had complained to the police that Fernandes was involved in selling the girl from Jharkhand in the name of domestic help.

It is said that Fernandes was arrested earlier for allegedly raping his domestic help.

A right-wing outfit alleged that Fernandes has been doing human trafficking for long. The outfit said that the earlier rape case had come to light due to the intervention of women's commission, and that he should be punished severely.

Police are investigating the case.

I am surprised why people from Pernal and Belman who have known Anni Fernandes closely for past three or four decades are not speaking up for him here. I see a a lot of people speculating and expressing their views and opinions who know nothing about Anni Fernandes. The facts are as follows: Yes, Anni has been supplying domestic helpers from Jharkand for the past several years to people personally known to him and are in need of such help. He once supplied a domestic worker from Jharkhand to my sister. Unfortunately, the worker did not take a liking to Mangalorean food habits and returned to Jharkhand within a short time. I am not in the knowledge if Anni charges anything apart from the cost incurred for this service. Bear in mind that he has to travel to Jharkhand to bring the workers to Mangalore. I understand there is a Mangalorean priest in Jharkhand who assists Anni in identifying people who are in need of such jobs. If Anni had anything to do with human trafficking, I do not believe a catholic priest would have had an association with him for such a long time. As for the allegation of rape of a domestic helper, if there was such a charge, why was he released by the police ? Allegation of rape is a highly explosive charge, particularly after the Nirbhaya case and some other recent cases highlighted in the media. May be there was no substance to the allegation. This is the first time I am hearing of this allegation. I have known Anni Fernandes for a long time. I know him to be a devout catholic and a god fearing person. He is highly respected in the community and does not need to earn money from human trafficking. He is at least 70 years of age if not older and a very decent human being. I am sure in the end truth will prevail and Anni will come out of this horrible episode unscathed.

Mr Ranjith, you are correct in your words. Middlemen are everywhere with long hands. Is it not true in Religion too. Swamy,Priest or Mukri acts as middle man between you and God. You pay for His or Her BS stories and examples. Do what I tell you and you will go to Heaven or you will get the best Rebirth(junma) or you will sit next to God.
It depends on how much you pay the preacher. More you pay, earlier you will reach Heaven. This is because you will have less money for medication after paying the Preacher, and death will be earlier. Heavens doors will open soon through lubrication to Palms of Preacher.

Pls stop using the agents who charge 20-30 thousand for getting a maid for you. they make money both sides and say they are serving the community... their intention is to make money. Once they get a mail they will take her away in three months for a better pay .... its bogus ...i needed a maid... and approached agent... she said she will need to be paid 40Kin advance and her duty to send her...if she comes back she.. cant be blamed...later i met a person whom she recruited as a housemaid to my friends house and told me she was the one who told her to leave the employer as agent has a better employer ater 3 months.

Most so called NGOs, right wing activists have vested interests and wait for such opportunities to extract their maximum pound of flesh from such 'suspicious' incidents at the cost of victim, and do not think twice to frame innocents!! However, if the suspicion turns out to be true then it is a condemnable act!!

Majority of so called good Samaritan activists, NGOs etc. are clearly wolves in sheep's clothing, they wait for opportunities like these to brainwash the mostly poor/uneducated victims to give fake statements and then extorting from the so called suspicious victim as much as they can, sorry but true!!

The above is a generic personal opinion!!

Police have arrested a man on suspicion of human trafficking in Belman but there is no proof, in that case police have to be blamed for not keeping an eye on the person just arresting a person based on a complain by public. Who is these public, do they know him?
It is said that Fernandes was arrested earlier for allegedly raping his domestic help. So in first place why was he released?
all in all police have to be blamed.

The whole story seems to be fishy here. The police have arrested the person in "suspicion" of Human trafficking. Thus even the police are not sure. Kindly note the word suspicion.
Secondly here A right-wing outfit is involved. And the intervention in all matters in the undivided DK by the right-wing outfits is seen every now and then, as these outfits have no work but to trouble others.

Human trafficking, specially into prostitution is most heinous crime.
It is another form of compelling slavery in this modern age of freedom. Disgrace to humanity.
Human trafficking should be firmly curbed and exemplary punishment should be given to offender as a deterrent action.
