Mangaluru to get Petro Park soon: Union minister Ananth Kumar

Puttur, Jan 25: Union minister for chemicals and fertilizers Ananth Kumar on Saturday January 24 said that the central government intends to set up a Petroleum, Chemicals and Petrochemicals Investment Region (PCPIR) or Petro Park in Mangaluru.

Ananth Kumar was speaking during the inauguration of Krishi Yanthra Mela 2015 in Puttur.

"I have asked MP Nalin Kumar Kateel to hold further talks with the petroleum and natural gas minister during the budget session. Land is needed for this purpose. We will get in touch with state government for the same," Ananth Kumar said.

He also said that the petro gas pipeline of around 400 kilometres between Kochi and Mangaluru will also be completed soon as the Kerala government has agreed to support GAIL which is implementing the project.

Ananth Kumar revealed that around 7 fertilizers manufacturing plants will be set up in the nation. Karnataka will also get a unit with the capacity of 13 lacs metric tonnes.

He also revealed that Mangaluru city will get a city pipeline in future to supply gas to domestic as well as commercial users. He said urea with neem coating will be available in the market for better yield in agricultural produce.

Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari Dr Veerendra Heggade who presided over the function called upon farmers to use the agricultural equipment for better outputs. Dharmasthala has already opened 163 agricultural equipment service centres, he revealed.

The three-day Mela will conclude on Monday January 26.

    i hate this petrochemical and fertilizer, coal industry in Mangalore. We need agricultural modern method of cultivating industry in Mangalore rather these sick increasing disease towards ashthma, sick diseas, cancer brain, lung, throat etc which is contributed by these petro industry in Mangalore. Set the agro product, farm product, IT industry, banking, fisheries etc. Crazy idiots still thinking about polluting Mangalore which we are blessed with fertile land of green land around.

    This is another blunder by useless minister to fool Coastal area, knowing well that no one with the right mind in our area will permit such hazardous industries to come up, and above all, knowing very well there is no land available in such sizes to sustain a Petro Park.

    Very soon, he will come up with a same statement I mentioned above, excusing himself from launching the Petro Park.

    A Petro-Park in Mangalore, as envisaged by the Union Minister is a right thought in the right direction. It takes time to plan and time to implement.

    Our Refinery in Mangalore, our Petrochemicals, our connecting Pipelines with our neighboring states added with our massive Special Economic Zones deserve our support and also our understanding.

    One of the best trump card that Mangalore has in store at all times is the benefit of our Educational Institutes that graduate thousands of students every year in every conceivable disciplines. Educational foundation of Mangalore has to be rewarded with proper infrastructure of all the support industries that will be able to utilize our own home-grown intellectuals so that they remain at home and help us to multiply our industrial base. This is where you plan and promote future scope for our young men and women who are embracing their Educational benefits that already prevail in and around Mangalore.

    Industrial growth and progress requires timely and cautious study on our environmental concerns and pollution threats. But in today's world of technology there are so many state of the art industries that have emerged with all the required pollution controls and provide clean air, clean water and clean living environment. All of the above requires investments of not only financial resources but also investment of thoughts and ideas plus willingness.

    Consequently, it is the people that benefit. It is the people of Mangalore and India that will progress and prosper.

    We therefore strongly encourage the seeds of thought sown by the Union Minister for a Petro Park than will broaden our Economy, our Education, and most importantly provide a symbol of hope for progress and prosperity of our younger generation.

    These young Intellectuals can groom themselves as Entrepreneurs and strong Pillars of our Community and society without providing a glimpse towards areas of opportunity outside our own borders. "Namaskhaar".

    First ask the MP and the state govt or whoever is in charge do something about kadri park before u talk of petro park.the zoo area of kadri is completely ruined and one feels sad ...as a child it was such a wonderful place for me but my kids don't get to enjoy the place...plz do some development there

    Please, no more industrialization of Mangaluru. It is already polluted and over populated. Companies like MRPL,HP and BASF should have been atleast 100 kilometers from residential areas but they are located right inside the city - thanks to the corrupt ministers of those time who gave the permissions. Traffic in the city is beyond control and prices of commodities and accommodation is sky rocketing all the time. Rise of immigrant population is creating countless problems. More industrialization will make it a ghetto like Dharavi.

    For your info.. Since the last 20 years your have wasted and incompetent BJP MP's who have failed to bag and major project which will generate employment or improve infrastructure.

    It is the job of the MP to bring in developmental projects..but sadly our 'ZERO PERFORMANCE MP' is only good for talking over the phone and attending Bajrang Dal sponsored protests.
