Kasargod, Jan 25: In a tragic incident, a woman and her three-year-old daughter were found hanging at their house in Perla under Badiadka police limits here on Saturday January 24 night.

It is suspected that the woman, identified as Yamuna (38), wife of Govinda Naik, killed her daughter Gayatri (3) before committing suicide.

The mother and the child were found hanging by sari and nylon rope, respectively, in their house at Sajantadka, Perla on Saturday night.

It is said that Yamuna's husband Govinda had left for work early on Saturday January 24. When he returned at night, he found the main door of the house locked from the inside. Despite knocking on the door for long, there was no response. Govinda then broke opened the door and on entering, he found his wife and daughter dead.

A shocked Govinda began screaming, and on hearing him, the locals rushed to the spot and called the police.

The police who arrived at the spot sent the bodies to Kasargod government hospital for post-mortem.

Sources said that Yamuna was suffering from mental illness and was undergoing treatment. It is suspected that her illness had led her to commit the act.

Badiadka police have registered a case.

Depression is the main cause of suicide..Depressed people find themselves with no hope left for the future..They have self destructive tendencies and are often not able to think rationally.
I have a close relative who was diagnosed with depression many years ago..inspite of taking her medication she is always lost and confused ..very sensitive and aggressive most of the time. She is also very irritating to be with. Always talks about the negative things does not see anything good happening around her.
Most of these cases get better if they have someone around them who can understand their feelings of anxiety and stress. But they tend to be irritating and keep repeating the same old stories so people around them get fed up and start avoiding them.
May be this women too might have felt that there was no hope left for her to live and she killed the child and herself.

She might have committed suicide knowingly or unknowingly, but she should have spared her daughters life. May their soul rest in peace. Lesson from this incident is that do not leave mentally ill people at home alone.
