Dr Veerendra Heggade, T V Mohandas Pai among Padma awardees

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru

Bengaluru, Jan 25: Dharmadhikari of Shree Kshetra Dharmasthala Dr D Veerendra Heggade and T V Mohandas Pai are two among the seven persons from Karnataka chosen for the prestigious Padma Awards.

The Padma Awards, one of the highest civilian honours of the country, were announced on Sunday January 25. The awards comprise Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri awards.

Dr Heggade has been chosen for the Padma Vibhushan award for his contribution to the field of social work.

T V Mohandas Pai, chairman of Manipal Global Education has been chosen for Padma Shri in the trade and industry category. Apart from him, S Arunan, Vasant Shastri and S K Shivkumar, all from Karnataka, will also get Padma Shri for their contribution to science and engineering.

The other awardees from Karnataka are Sri Shivakumara Swamiji of Shree Siddaganga Math in Tumkur (others) and Dr Kharag Singh Valdiya (science and engineering), both of whom have been chosen for Padma Bhushan.

Speaking to media persons at Dharmasthala, Dr Heggade expressed happiness on being chosen for the award but added that it has increased his responsibilities.

"People of Dharmasthala and other places have come in large numbers to congratulate me. Fourteen years ago, in the year 2000, I had been chosen for the Padma Bhushan award. Since then, several welfare programmes have been initiated and successfully executed. I believe that this accomplishment has caught the attention of the government," Dr Heggade said.

"I have always felt happy on receiving awards, but it never made me proud. Awards increase one's responsibilities. It brings happiness because over 20,000 people are working hard in various institutions (run by Shree Kshetra Dharmasthala) and serving Shree Manjunatha Swamy. They have brought name to Dharmasthala. Hence they too share the honour of getting this award," he said.

Apart from Dr Heggade, BJP leader L K Advani, actors Dilip Kumar and Amitabh Bachchan and Punjab chief minister Prakash Singh Badal are among the nine awarded India's second highest civilian honour, the Padma Vibhushan.

Microsoft founder and philanthropist Bill Gates and his wife Melinda, journalists Swapan Dasgupta and Rajat Sharma, lawyer Harish Salve, filmmaker Jahnu Barua, former chief election commissioner NGopalaswami, wrestler-turned-coach Satpal, and maths "Nobel Prize" winner Manjul Bhargava are among the 20 recipients of the Padma Bhushan, said a home ministry release.

The Padma Shri has been awarded to 75 people.

    Dear IK Perinje,
I really wish someone other than "Ismail K Perinje" (not to offend anyone but really impressed) had opined like you had. Salute you bro for the kind of information you cared to keep with you and share with us on this platform. Probably it's my ignorance, but I liked your comment more than the article itself.
Warmest regards and belated new year.

Heart felt congratulations to H.E PADMA VIBHUSHAN,DR VEERENDRA HEGGADE,DHARMADHIKARI,SRI KESHTRA DHARMASTALA.

A proud moment especially for Belthangday Taluk people 4 bringing second highest civilian AWARD 2 Taluk through Sri Heggde. In fact Tulvans and Kannadigas are proud of him. This is second time he was considered for the highest civilian award.

Coming to his achievement,I should refer SKDRDP(SRI SKESTHRA DHARMASTALA RURAL DEVELOPMENT PROJECT)which was started in eighties now grown as one of the model project of India and Karnataka. The officials of Central and state Govt are frequenting Dharmastala to have on hand experiences of the project to implement in Govt schemes.Financial/insurance institutions are tied up with SKDRDP to serve the people.RUDSET,HQ in UJIRE, one of the pioneer institution in training job seekers which also tied up with various companies and financial institutions.

Sri Heggade is architect of these services through various units. In the field of education, medical and other allied services are in fact motivates every NGOs and individuals around.Self help unit were established across Karnataka which was later copied by various NGOs.Dharmastala self help unit, virtually became banking operation in terms of volume of economic activities are concerned.Free
Mobile Medical facilities are started earlier than Govt introduced and still operations R going on.Every day thousands of devotees are provided with food three times.
Sri Heggade has so many national and international awards in his kitty which makes him to concentrate more services to HAVES NOT.He is instrumental in creating PUBLIC BURIAL grounds across the districts with financial aids. From Dharmastala, financial aids are given to various temples of DK/Karnataka for renovation etc.His concept of 'SAMOHIKA MADUVE'also unique which was copied by other NGOs.

Sri Heggde, who made national & intl NGOs 2 visit Dharmastala 2 study the unique social services certainly deserves BHARATH RATNA.

Just because Sonia Gandhi doesnt give interview to anyone or Pappu is discouraged to give interviews to any journo, you cant discredit rajat sharma's Modi interview!...

Know a bit of history on Rajdeep, then you will know why I said, what I said! Rajat has been ABVP activist and has come up on his own from poverty and sticking to Journalistic ethics has made it big in Media! Unlike bootlicker Rajdeep who misused his father in law's (Bhaskar Ghose) position as director of DD and sand baggged himself into print journalism and then to Prannoy James Roy!... he had not done any great journalism until he covered Godhra and got a Padmashri for nothing, and being Dynasty sympathiser...! Same goes for Burkha dutt!! ..did anyone strip their Awards, for getting into RADIA TAPES..? or NOTE FOR VOTE sting scam? or for their madison square brawl..? is that what you mean by ethical journalism?
